Tape based (MiniDV), with electronic image stabiliser, something from Sony, Canon or Panasonic are recommended. DVD cam no good.

You want to set it up focused on your instruments and set to manual focus. Zoom in about 1/2 way to set focus, then zoom all the way out, the motion-blurred road and background is not as critical as cluster to have in focus. Set to zoom to widest, you'll have a reasonable depth of field (DOF) anyway.

A lot of new release models are really very limiting, not having a manual focus ring - I prefer buttons on my cams...but lately new models are all menu driven. A consumer fad, but in reality is next to useless and gimmicky. I pay good money for my 3CCD Pro DVCams 'cos they have swtiches and buttons.

If you want a cheap, flexible cam with most of stuff that does NOT come today's cam look on ebay for a TRV16e or TRV18e - they have mic input & hot shoe, manual focus ring and reasonably sensitive 800,000 pixel CCD = night stuff comes out well.

It's a great classic little cam, couple years old, one that I use as my reserve unit/bike cam. Only gripe is it is a bottom loader, meaning must remove from mount/tripod to change tapes - but minor inconvenience for the features. Pretty much last model before Sony went in for the touch screen control.

anybody else used one of these mounts yet ???
used mine last weekend and it seems to shudder a fair bit. dont know if it may be a symptom of using it on a twin and just suffering vibration from the bike. am sure it is not the camera as have used it on the a different mount on the busa and it was stable right to the speed limit (if you know what i mean tfic)

Tom "No Fear" Just means you aint goin quick enough yet !!!!!

I've had no problems with shudder. I'm guessing it IS a v-twin thing.

Some bloke I know managed to do this when he borrowed my camera mount...
