Bikes,the future, & you

Just read a post over at www.suzukihayabusa.org about the Swiss government's plans to introduce draconian anti-bike legislation, very ugly story indeed

In this country we tend to take out open spaces & freedoms for granted but would not want to become too complacent as there are forces at work right now that would do the same here if they could get away with it

A couple of years ago I parked the busa in the secure parking area at the Phillip Island GP & was absolutely gobsmacked at the numbers of bikes there. Many acres of handle bar to handle bar bikes which made me think that if all of those blokes banded together they would be a potent political lobbying force for non restrictive bike laws.

For this reason I subsequently I joined the MRAA & now enjoy discounts on tyres & accessories which has more than repaid my $40 joining fee

Anyone else here joined ?........www.mraa.org.au

Yeah true story Rev, do you have a link to the post on .org??
There's potential for a potent political lobby here and the MRAA does what it can...Having said that, Bracks gets re-elected and the $50 rego rort continues...most of us are paying close to a grand a year in rego now...and then they have the balls to announce tolls on the eastern freeway extension / bypass...clowns

Interesting to read on the MRAA site bike parking on the footpath is banned outside 101 Collins (lobby power??) etc no doubt bc of crazy couriers...
Does anyone know why some parking garages refuse to accept motorcycles?? I can't figure it out...

Also interesting re lane splitting, (obviously) the practice is not illegal, it amazes me on occasion when people chastise others about the practice...at the risk of being labelled a crazy lunatic...if you're not comfortable doing it then don't do it...

Was at Marysville the other day...parked on the footpath...no sign of constable ballbreaker either
Still waiting for a summons re previous incident...
You got yours yet Richard?

rocket rod...how did u find the reefton? I don't ride it nearly enough...a bit damp at the top but that road is without doubt the best of the best...very clean from debris / rubble too considering...ever been there during / after a storm? the place is a mess...

Neither summons has appeared, yet. But I wouldn't expect to hear for at least another 2 months or so.

I guess we have all read about the "in road cameras"the vic government are currently testing W.T.F.whats next,a built in computer on yer bike that they will plug in and download every time you have speed We should stand together and refuse to pay the f***kers:">

No. The guvmint is NOT testing in road cameras. A company which wants to sell them in road cameras wants to test them. The guvmint has currently said no.

WAY too easy to sabotage.

if they are one way pointing should not be to much of a trouble to pull alongside and render inoperable with the judicous use of a small hammer or similar implement.

from elsewhere, but probably belongs here too...

Quote:Problem with politics is that one group are good because of ABC, but you'ld rather the other mob for XYZ. They each try to woo your vote with their bait, so each election, you have multiple baits laid out for you (each in their own trap, of course...)

So decide what you want most, try and work out which trap will hurt you the least, and go that way.

Rev, no I haven't been part of the MRAA for many years, but have meant to join up again for a while... Procastornating...

Yeah i was in the MRA years ago, problam is they have no clout.I'm probably ignorant but what have they done lately? What happened about the $50 fee the government whacked on us recently....nothing,and what about the front number plate issue that raises its head again,i'll bet we have them in 12 months. You might as well bend over and take it where the sun doesn't shine!

Yeah, but in their defence, they wont get clout if clods like us keep leaping off.

Yeah Rocket, so was I (70's) but I rejoined. By "clout" I assume you mean credibility & persuasive powers ? It's simple, more members gives more clout & more credibility, so get on board son

$40 isn't gonna send any busa owner to the wall & you will recoup your money through tyre & accessory discounts like I did

I just figure that it's far better to have somebody speaking up on our behalf that nobody. As far as the front number plates goes they're getting away with it because they've always perceived us as a political annoyance rather than something to be reckoned with, and why ? Lack of numbers (votes) is my guess

Yes i have rethought this one and admit to making a wrong call. Its true to have clout you need 1. numbers and 2.money, and the only way to do this is to get in and support and express your opinion,as you say rev at least some voice is better than none.

re: in road cameras, I believe the original article was in last sunday's herald-sun?

There's a mention of it in the latest AMCN...apparently it won't go ahead but they weren't very subtle in disguising who they were targeting with in road cameras ie the spur, the GOR and kew boulevard were proposed for tests...
