Oil Leaking CheeseCake, help.

Hi guys,
A couple of days ago I smelled burning oil and a small puff of smoke visible in the headlight as I warmed the bike to get off to a nightshift. As I was aware the clutch slave cylinder was leaking I put it down to that - ordered a new slave cylinder ($103.00) and put it on today. There was brake fluid all over the place. Imagine my surprise when i was putting the left side fairing panel back on and found oil all over the lower inside. Put Social Sip off for tonight and took both fairing sides off loking for the sourse of all that oil. There is a large external oild feed from the oil radiator to the motor at the front of the motor. Oil all over it. Turned the motor over and ran it until the thermo fan cut in, bloody oil oozing from the bottom of the gauzy looking fabric part of the line. This really seems strange. Has anybody else had a failure like this? The thing is behind both radiators so it seems impossible to have been holed by an external agent/thing.

Errrr no !!!

Hole in oil cooler ? chafed & holed oil line ? loose connection ?

Clean it down good & run it with no fairing, you should be able to pick it ok

No, not the cooler, the front oil cooler line, it has a softer fabric type segment. Tried to buy one from Action - none in Aussie, 3 to 4 weeks to get one in, trying Pirtech and Enzed tomorrow to see if they can replace the fabric segment. The damned thing runs from the left side of the oil cooler between the pipes and then underneath to the oil gallery in the sump area. I could try a wrecker if the pirtech thing doesn't work. The bike is ridable but with an oil leak in what appears to be a soft oil line I don't want to risk a sudden failure that will dump oil on the road in front of the back wheel.

Hi Max,

IMHO it is better to get the part you need made up by somebody like Pirtech or some other hose doctor crowd than go to spewzuki. What has happened by the sounds of it is the crimp part has failed. They will need to make up a new line with appropriate fittings on the end. I think this is a "1 in a million" fault, just bad luck.

Hey there,

I guess you could put arma flex on the line if you are really paranoid. From what you are saying it's a dodgy crimp rather than the hose itself so it would be overkill.

Take it to a hydraulic specialist, not real hi pressure as oil pressures go only around 70psi, a bit of oil proof hose and some hose clamps would get you going quickly, but try the wreckers as another option,its not something that should happen probably a fault in your hose .

Greg's right ,

remove the original hose (hacksaw or whatever ) try not to damage the pipe section underneath and replace with oil resistant hose (nearly all hoses from hyd. suppliers) and two hose clamps . Cheap easy and will work.

Thats the way I did my oil cooler relocation.

Once I had the oil line off I found a wear mark that had worn just about all the way through. I took the line to Pirtech, the bloke took one look at the wear mark, and poked his f*&^ing biro through the little alloy left. Tried Mig welding, strange alloy wouldnot accept the weld. Got a replacement coming from Metropolitan in Sydney ($63). I'd say the wear came from when the Yosh was fitted by Action, was rubbing on the pipe. Gotta hate that. At least I know where the oil was coming from now. Action blue not Sprewzuki Cheesecake.

just goto metropolitain spares in silverwater and pay <20$ for another hose of a late model busa?

easy fix

If there is something wrong with it, the solution is always " MORE HORSEPOWER"
