Shipping a bike to the UK

has anyone heard of people from the UK wanting to buy bikes in aus and shipping them back to the UK? story is Im selling my bike(Virgao1100 thankfully for a busa) and its on all classifieds and this english guy(in England) wants to send a check including shipping costs wait till it clears and then ahve the bike shipped to his client wtf is going on there? does this sound like a scam or something? cheers guys

Be very careful, quite likely this is a scam, safer to assume it is and be careful accordingly.

Instead of a cheque, and there's quite a lot of dodgy bank cheques floating around, suggest they wire transfer the money to you

One of the common scams is they send you a cheque for a greater amount, you then send the difference to the 'agent' as commission, the cheque you received then bounces.

This can happen because it is possible for your bank to flag the foreign cheque as cleared when it in fact hasn't been fully processed.

And *why* would they want to buy a Virago1100 from halfway across the world? Are they not available in the UK? ---------------------------------

I've brought a couple of bikes in from the UK and one car BUT I owned them over there.-- just a bit easier to make happen.

Bikes in OZ are some of the cheapest in the world in comparision --- in the UK he would have to pay VAT plus duties and there are still design std's EEC that the bike would need to comply too.

I advertised my son's bike on the web and got a form E-mail back detailing exactly the same thing.
They will send a cheque worth more than the bike and the shipping agent will arrange pickup. BULLSHIT.
It is a known scam and has been advised to the Australian Securities commission etc.
