well, I had my first 'busa ride today, now the bike was barely run with only 1100kms on the clock so by agreement with the seller it was just a short run in the low-rev range to get a feel for the bike. The bike has Yoshimura RS2 mufflers and no other mods to my knowledge and run in pretty much by the book i'm told.
Now perhaps I'm too hyped on the dyno specs and raves about the 'busa but I was wondering where the hell the 99 N M torque @ 3,000rpm was?! I only rode around the 3k to 5k rev range but I still expected it torque away like an Yam XJR1300 I once rode.
Three things come to mind:
1. Some Suzis are built better than others...this one is just a dog - people say ride the 'busa you're going to buy.
2. 1100kms the motor is so tight and hardly run in (didn't detect 'tightness' as such) that it gets much better with more kays. It would want to *much* better than what it is now tho'!
2. RS3 add to the top end, but noticeably take away from the bottom-end response??
3. Despite what everyone says 'busa needs a remap (power commander needed?) for the Yoshis??
It is an immaculate bike, got some extras, unmarked and I'm keen...but I was left well under-impressed from what I've read/heard about these things. I need to ride more examples I know.
Appreciate your thoughts, I will be quizing the dealer it was bought from on Mon just to check things out.

Check that it has bin maped for the pipes and go and take a
stock one for a test ride and see what you think. I rode a few
before getting my bike just to see if there was a lot difference
from brand spankers to used. Mine had 9thou on the clock
when I got her and did not feal that much diff over the new
one. Also pipes will take away some of that low down torque
but will let the bike breath up top a bit better. Thats my 2
cents worth. I dont spin spaners for a living it's just what
I have felt at the seat of my leathers
Regards Richard
Also ride next to the fjr 1300 and you may find your going quicker than you think!
Buy the Yamaha...............
Otherwise wring the f***kers neck! Try 6500 to 9500 1st, 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and maybe 10500 in 6th.
Then make your mind up.
(Unless it's the slow model. Then fit a geartronics GPI)
Anyone that fits cans etc without a re-map is a cheeseball on a cheesecake...

i agree with Gdyup.
I wasn't that impressed when I first rode mine home.
I expected it to power on at low revs.
It was very tame after all the hype I had read.
But trust us get the revs up and ooooolalaaaaaaaaaaaaa....amazing. Cheers,
Pete

sluggish off the light for sure but then after 10 - 20 meteres (when you feel the 'buzz').......hold on and note your butt hit the rear hump, forget traffic riding, its on the open highway when it comes into its own. Just back from a run up to Yea and over 6 years with the bike and Im still impressed. Burnt it off the lights with some sports cars man it goes they were all so far back in the mirrors I could barely see them. so far only the Vmax will outdo me on the lights but then after 60 meteres he trails. busa still rules the roost.
After experiencing the 'four-finger' requirement for braking I began to wonder if should get a Gixxer.
So what is required for a remap - that is a $1k expense yes? e.g. power commander + 4-6 hours dyno tuning?? That's not worth the expense in my opinion. A dealer told me last week they werer getting some do-dah from Suzuki that will allow them more adjustment on the factory ECU - I'll have to call them in regards to adjustment for pipes.
$16.5 unmarked 7/05 K5, 1100kms, 1st reg Sept '05, bagster tank cover + bag (new), oval RS3 cans + stock cans - it that seems *reasonable*...what are you buys paying new, Busdriver?? what did your K6 and bits cost rideaway? email cudex@yahoo.com or PM if u prefer.

I bought the busa for the framework of a good bike. The brakes can be totally sorted, the handling can be dramatically improved the engine the skys the limit and the bike is an icon.Granted a k whatever gsx1000 will handle and brake better out of the showroom but their frail, lose value faster, buzz and vibrate more, and can only be incrementally improved .Often these improvements cannnot be realised unless on a track day.So remember the busa is a hypersports tourer wilth huge scope for dynamic improvement(kawasukis bike is near 30kg lighter it changes direction easier than my r6) and you can bling them like no other bike available. If you bought a bike to scare you you should have bought a zx10? When i first rode a busa i was unimpressed,if you want thrills put a tre on and a 43 tooth rear sprocket on. cheers glenn
What everybody forgets is that the Busa is way over geared for every day riding & the response from 100kph in top gear is not that startling. My old VMAX would stay with it for a stride. Yeah sure it will do over 300 in ideal conditions but so what !
I've been riding with realistic gearing for years (17/43) and the top gear response from 100 kph is awesome. I use a bit more gas than everyone else but hey, I'm not on an economy drive with this mother
all i can say is your going faster than you think! the bike is so stable and smooth you dont even realise. on a gixxer1000 you go fast and you damn well feel it, a busa you feel it at 300+ the thing is still stable at 220kph like it was at 100 at 300 well it s welll stable. in 1st and 2nd if i at WOT it will power wheelie in the upper rev range. but hey everyones different but one thing i can tell you is that the 1300 yammy will get its arse handed to it against a busa. rev01 is right the gearing is tall 120 or so in 1st 170-180 in 2nd etc etc. Its a fast fast bike faster than most riders would every be able to fully use. keeping the busa between 3k and 5-6k is like test driving a Porche gt3 and not exceeding 3k rpm you got nothing
Just buy the bloody Yamaha...
And as for the 43 toother Too Slow!!!
Now a turbo with a 38 toother...
Mate, listen to the lads.
If you wanna wheelie everywhere on a new R1 or ZX10 then go for it. But if you choose a Busa, you'll need to realise that it will not be the bike that you should expect something from, it should be yourself. I do hear what you're saying, but I was lucky to have my first ride on a well run in Busa. So it was all systems go. But I learned very quickly that this bike is top shelf stuff. Treat it wrong, and it's all over. Don't think that that is just a saying.
For my two cents, if you are unsure, take a Busa out into the sticks and get it above 7000 and keep it open. Let the thing come on song and let the ram air induction work.
As for the torque, the reverend is bang on the money. I use a 17/42 combo which gives a little more punch than standard down low.
What I am trying to say is don't get turned off about media hype. There is not another bike out there that even comes close to the Busa. And I look regularly. But if you buy one and while you are testing them please consider that it is only a starting point. These bikes need to be set-up properly. Or you will not get the best that it has to offer.
Enjoy.
Oh and by the way, I run Yoshi RS3 cans and I had the bike sorted with them on. You DON'T need a powercommander unless you are going to do some serious engine work or a turbo etc. The standard ECU can be calibrated +or- 10%.
It has been on the Dyno at 112 foot pounds of torque and 172 bhp so I would say that the cans help the bike breathe better across the rev range. And that can only help your performance. Yes?
Best of luck. Cheers,
Holge
