1) If I get a vote, then I give it to Dj as my proxy. I understand the issues, effort, technicalities and possibilities - the for's and against's and all that. But to be honest I believe the best I can do is to assign my vote to someone who has to deal with the daily practicalities and is at the sharp end of the stick. So, Dj gets my vote.

2) If future membership here requires an annual fee, I am absolutely willing to contribute. No issues.

3) If I can be of more assistance in the running of the board, I am willing to be trained and to do my bit. I'm here every day, I've got some IT background so if you want an extra set of hands to pitch in, just let me know.

The things I would hate to lose are (1) all the data we already have, (2) our post counts - don't mean to sound like a wanker, but my post count attests to the fact that I contribute to this community on a regular basis. (3) I hope that we can maintain the easy-going, tolerant nature of the board where we rely on members using common sense, sensitivity and fairness in their posts rather than use additional policing powers which might change those things.

Things I would like to have are (1) A proper search facility that can go back through ALL the threads (2) Better picture and linking functionality (3) more varied emoticons (4) A way to stop people logging in and plugging their product or spouting religion, politics or other fringe opinions - and never coming back again.

Having said what I'd like I also want to make it clear that I feel priviliged to be here and to have all this technology and all these services laid on for me - for my enjoyment. So, I'd like to send a big vote of thanks to all of those people who expend their time and effort to do all of these things. Greatly appreciated guys.

The older I get, the better I was. Regards.... Rob

Astro appreciate that but it aint about people here.
It's about the present sytem and whether we want to move forward.
By the sound of it most would move if we can keep the database and move it across.
SO I reckon that is what we should look into...
Ive done a search to see if it is possible on Google and no good so far.
Is anyone else can look around, most appreciated.

Ps dont forget people that running a Board is really quite simple.
Its not like Volvi, Deem or me are sweating in the back room somewhere.
Once a Board is set up it runs itself... Cheers,
Pete

we shud look into it in stages. First Richard to get back and let us know what this board is actually costing. Secondly checking out migration of valued topics/posts. and we'll see from there.

about the migration...

my gaming guild did a full migration of all topics & posts to the new forums we are talking about

check here: p203.ezboard.com/fraiders...=283.topic

Thats the old easy board ones - note in that topic the admin talks of the import to this:

tavernraiders.com/forums/

Those ones are PhP forums - but that one & the one we are talking about use the same database format on the back end for the forum ;) so we can get a dump from easy board & we can import it all "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Good work Raz.
Now we just need to know the procedure to get the info from Ezboard.
We should do this anyway even if not moving great to have a backup Cheers,
Pete

Can we move all the topics from Ezboard to a new site you would think that they would have the rights to them and then we could be in for a legal battle or are we free to copy and move to new site .
if a new site required more work i would be happy to learn from someone to help out in any way possible as i dont do much being retired and that goes for things like jindy sorry Richard should have offered sooner but if you need any help running around phone calls what ever let me no .
i like this site and the people i have met so far all have been great its just like one big family i no we cant predict the future but i dont plan on going any where other than in a box i would like to be able to get my original user details back though THE WARRIOR

Yes we can move all the topics & their posts across ;) as was done with my gaming guild site.

Also lets not forget that while we are suggesting this move - we are not wanting to take anything away from those that have done the great work thus far!! Those people will still be the admins & mod's - we will show them how to run the new stuff & well - I am offering my services as a technical professional to support & help doing this aka helping the club - if they want extra help admin'ing - for sure I'll be there as I admin a few of these forums anyway

As for the right to Data - since the club pays for the hosting - we own the data by law ;)

Either way - as shown with my gaming guilds change from Easy board to PhP/Vb forums - they will give us a dump of the data to import to the new forums (Thats all data for topices posts & user data from memory)

DJ - If you would like I can contact the head of the gaming guild & find out what they had to do to get the dump from easy board? "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

while its not bad - hosting our own & having full control over our database is way more control & security then pre-hosted forums

For instance - with doing the php or vb ones - we can control security a lot more - eg: not allow set users to view set area's as well ;)

there is a massive list but still not bad ;)

I found some other free ones that look good - www.myfastforum.org/

But I'd still say doing it our selfs would be much better "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

I' m still on dial up

Over the years, apart from the ONE maliciously inspired meltdown that affected EVERYONE...I've never had any problems with this format in any way whatsoever

ooo - looked like one of those freebie ones lol

in that case we could code the hell outta that to bling it up "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"
