Hey Greg, what other bikes have you owned? Shannon's won't insure me, as their area of speciality does not cover (quote) "these sorts of bikes" (unquote). They make exceptions if you currently have a premium with them, or if you have a history of owning American or European bikes, but Japanese bikes do not count....
"I can refer you on to a more mainstream insurer..."

Hi just rang up out of the blue to try them.Never had Insurance with them before.Must have spoken to the rite person had no problems with them all ok.GREG
Maybe the person you spoke to does not know that the bike is Japanese... I told them it was a Suzuki GSX1300R, maybe you said Hayabusa... which doesn't sound Japanese at all but sounds very American... Anyway, I may just try again when renewal time comes around.
Here is notification I received from my insurer IC Frith & Ass., which is self-explanatory.
My premium (as at May 2001) was $547.67 covering 'market value' with a $350 excess.

Hey Richard, don't worry it will happen!
Ok... you think your figures are bad. I tried all of the insurance companies mentioned above and the cheapest i could get for fully comprehensive was $3827 with western QBE. Bugger that! This leaves me with paying $1827 for third party. Even paying that was a struggle.
Im 27, never been insured before and no penalties in 5 years. What is giving you guys such cheap rates?
Forget those ones under $1000, cause they all seem to be over 40s. And one other person got a good deal through a specialist insurance company.
What rating have they put you on? And another big factor is what area you live in (risk of theft); but this will not boost $1000 odd to $3000 odd, but just add another 10 or 20%. I'm sure being under 30 has contributed to buggering you, but the biggest factor is your rating! The premiums go up leaps and bounds through the ratings. Because you have never been insured before, you are probably on rating 6 (or 5 if you are lucky). If you had been insured for the last 5 years, (even third party) you would have been on a lower premium, substantially. No insurance record = moderately bad risk, as far as the insurers are concerned.
Just reinsured my Busa with QBE for $626.oo. I tried I.C.Friths for a quote as Iam now 40 and they told me they do not insure Hayabusa`s any more.Which is strange because they quoted me $560.00 the week before when I was shopping around for prices then when I wanted to reinsure they said no and I have a ratimg one and no traffic offences in the last 5 years. Also told QBE I could get a cheaper rate and they knocked $80.00 of my renewal rate.

Well team just to add another spin to the process, I insured my busa (brand spnker, 4 weeks ago for the agreed @19,500) and was suprised to get the best deal off SunCorp. Within a week suncorp dropped their quote (apparantly they have changed their policy) from $1,800 to $955.00 for full Comp / under 40 / me the only rider naturally / weekend warrior. So theres another option for you.

Have recently moved to NRMA Vintage & Veteran Club for unlimited Klms and $410pa. Only downside no commuting, but then again that is not the Busa's strong point.
