...but finally I have one. Or should I say, about to collect my very own Hayabusa. A bit about me: 31 years old, started off like most people riding dirt bikes at a young age. My clapped out old TS185 died pretty quickly and i moved on to cars but the passion for bikes was well ingrained.
Earlier this year I had the option of buying a K4 GSXR600, GSX1400 or Batfinks gen 1 Hayabusa. I chose the 600 because it was a hoot to ride and local. Fast forward 6 months and the honeymoon is over, the 600 is a little cramped for my liking - I feel like a friggin dinosaur trying to pork a golf ball when I ride it. A couple weeks later, it's riding off with its new owner....leaving me bikeless. So I have a predicament. What to buy? I think a GSX1400 seems about right. But I spend the next two weeks chopping and changing, from GSX1400 to SV1000 to Z1000 to gen 1 Busa to gen 2 Busa to B-King then back to gen 2 Busa then finally decide that a GSX1400 is right. Earlier this week I started speaking to a seller in Brisbane about his 1400 and we were on track to do the deal...until a couple of days ago when a local shop placed a classified for a black K4 Busa they were selling.
So I jumped on it. Checked it out yesterday and it looked like it had been well maintained. The exhausts sound great and the test ride, well, what can I say that hasn't already been said about these incredible machines. Rolled back to the shop with a grin and put the deposit down, they're going to change the oil and fluids and I'll pick it up Saturday arvo.
It's a black 2004 with minimal mods, done 24xxxkms. I absolutely, positively hate those grips though and will be searching the forum to see what others have done with their gen 1 grips.
Anyway nice to meet you all, looks like I've got loads of reading to do . Cheers, Mars

Thanks Kendo, Saturday can't come quick enough! Yep I will be taking a long time to get used to this one. My old 600 was a barrel of fun for blatting around on whereas I have this huge respect for the power of the Bus, definitely won't be doing anything stupid in the forseeable future.
HAHA Tony, I knew you'd pop up LOL. I did regret not buying your old one, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. What the heck is Tathra? I'll sus it out but I doubt I can get the time off work, it would be good to take the bike for a decent run and put the ventura touring bag to good use hehe.
LOL Rev nah mate, definitely won't be riding this thing like a 250 haha. I'll probably be the slowest rider in the adelaide hills for the next 6 months. But possibly the happiest!

Nice looking low km bike.
I have a Gen 1 & Gen 2, The Gen 2 is a smoother bike to ride but I really enjoy riding the Gen 1, it feels lighter and easier to throw into corners.

Hope you love the 'buss. Just remember they are heavy to pull up. You'll be going way faster with way less effort before you know it. Keep one on that speedo and give yourself a little more braking room 'till you get the hang of it. BUT they are just AWESOME fun, they love to rev and really sing up around redline, and will do it day in and day out without any harm to that Gen1 bullet proof motor.
I don't want a pickle . . .

Mars,
Very tidy looking bike mate
Excellent colour choice too, if I do say so myself ..
As the others have said, take it easy to start with, when all is said and done, the black ones are the fastest
Cheers .. Dale

Thanks for the awesome welcome everyone. Just got home after riding it...the long way home. Should have taken me 45 mins to get home but it took me just over two hours LOL. First impressions: its definitely a big bike, I wasn't game on tipping it too far into corners like my old GSXR. It LOVED the freeway and cruised along brilliantly. Got passed by two people in the hills, some dude on an Aprilia and the other on a Street Triple - but I didnt give a toss, i was happily just cruising along and getting familiar with the bike.
Some things will need urgent attention:
1) double bubble screen (the tinted one on there is too low, I cant see the gauges properly)
2) it idles a bit too low...i think it might need to be adjusted to idle higher
3) the grips are HORRIBLE, the throttle has so much play in it and they are uncomfortable as hell.
4) it accelerates when turning full-lock-left, that will need to be looked at soon.
But all in all I love it, what a bike. Lucksafortune2000 thats cool, i'm out at Windsor Gardens and keen for a ride somewhere. Give me a couple of weeks to fix the abovementioned niggles and it'll be sweet.

double screens are horrible they direct the wind straight up uner the visor,,stock is much better imo. idle is around 900rpm on my bus ,sounds like the cable is stuck just under the lip of the fuel tank,
um itl lay over futher and handle better then any gsxr ,lol youl realise this when u get used to it ,and itl eat the rubbish that over took you ,lol

Has it got any type of bar raiser Mars? Seems a common issue but I think normally for full lock to the right?
Check out the choke mods for highway cruise control, you will love it lol
I can send you a link to the full service manual if you want, I left one on my google drive you can download. It should include all the supplements too lol
I have adjusted the throttle on my new one, they want too much play even from factory..... Could be a reason I don't know about but I prefer something to happen when I move my wrist.
I can remember picking up my new gal... The 15 min ride home took me about 2 hours too
