Tassie road info and maps
#1
Looking to start planning the ride over at Tasmania in march and would like to hit as many great roads throughout the island as possible.
We will have approx 10+ days there so I am thinking of staying at two places over the period spent there with 5 ish days up north and 5 down south.
Any help with accommodation and details on roads / maps etc would be greatly appreciated.
I am sure there are either a few Tassie members or those of you who have been there before can help with their insight..

Thanks in advance Clap

Who else wants to do the trip?????

Look at ideas for roads so far... There is a Tassie tour in feb and on Saturday me, GOOFTROOP, mozzie26 are doing a 1 day ride covering most of north east...

Questions to ask yourself...
Doing it for ride experience only?
Want some pics?
Fast or slow?

Each answer will help, determine what you want to experience... 10 days is a perfect time for travelling e state though I would say 4 days based in north east, 3 in south and 2 in west...

Tassie is like a triangle lol

Moshy,
Batfink has laid out a nice trip for us in Feb. If you browse that thread it may give a few ideas.

Some ideas for you to look at...

1. North/East 8hr Day ride

This ride enjoys some magic roads that while a bit on the bumpy side has some fun cornering...
Between Nunamara and Scottsdale (Sidling)
Derby and Pyengana
St mary's Pass
Elephant Pass
Lake Leake hwy

With fuel, food, coffee (beer) and picture breaks you should be able to do this in 7-8 hours...

2. North and Tamar Valley 8hr Ride

While not as good for riding as option 1 there are still some nice roads and you will have covered most of the north east corner by doing both..

With lots of double backs and loops you will be seeing as much of the Tamar Valley as possible. The area has heaps of wineries some very good scenic shots and a wide variety of roads.
When riding around these areas I like to try to call into Rosevears Tavern for a cold ale, have a hot pie at Beaconsfield bakery (or Exeter bakery)
>There's the Beaconsfield mine tours too, not sure when they are operating though..

As previously said.. you tell me what you want to do and I can work out some routes for you in North and Northeast.. ROD and Triffstar should know of some nice ones further South, GOOFTROOP should know of west coast roads

3. North & Central 8hr Ride

While the Midlands hwy from launceston to Oatlands is rather boring your fun will start when you turn off to Bothwell and ride up over the central highlands to the lakes.. I would stop for a beer at Great Lakes Pub before heading down towards Poatina. Now that IS A FUN RIDE...

you can keep to a lot of back roads that are still very good to ride and get nearly all the way back to the boat before looping back to Launceston..
some stops, fuel, food will easily make this a 8 hour ride.

Another option is to reverse ride 3 and after Bothwell turn right instead of left and you will be 3/4 of the way to Hobart...

if you did say 1. & 2. over 2 days, had day to recover then 3. that would put you in Hobart on day 4 of your tour.. do same type of thing in Hobart then end up on west coast (GOOFTROOP might be able to help with where good to stay at) maybe 1 night on coast then finish up with a night or 2 at Burnie to tour the north west & north central of Tassie...

There is a nice ride posted on Tassie Tour 2014 for Day 1 that covers some nice roads in north central...

don't forget to ride up north west to Stanely and beyond

You should see Port Arthur if never done before, and ride as far south when in Hobart through the Huon Valley and see about the Strathgordon ride.. there are posts of the last one from last summer somewhere on here LOL
