Gen II Header Upgrade
#1
I currently have the Yoshimura Japan Street Sports slip ons fitted to my K9. Looks and sounds great, but i would like to get a bit more out of it so i'm considering changing the stock headers. Vance & Hines make one and i'm guessing Yoshimura would have one too. Saving weight and getting abit more power would be great. I'd like to ask will i really get that much more out of changing the headers (what gains can i expect - the bike will be re-tuned) and which headers would you recommend ?

retune to get the best out of it.
biggest improvement you'll get is no more cat...

As the saying goes - "the slip-ons make noise, full systems make power"
You will definitely benefit from getting rid of the OEM exhaust system in terms of weight saving and a few extra horses. That is providing that you do a proper tuneup on Dyno after. (make sure your air filter is clean before that). I am not sure if it is a good idea to mix exhaust components from different manufacturers though.
The downside is like is says above - removing cat is not exactly legal (but still goof fun) Scary

Brocks are great for hp but ya lose a little "street torque" due to their large primaries header pipes. Yoshimura are great for street use.

I had the cats cut out and replaced with a balanced X section..gained 3hp but best was a nicer sound once the revs rise and a lot less heat..

Sorry to hear about the spill. Hope you are ok. So what kind of power did she make with the Brocks pipe ?

Well the crash was more embarrassing than hurtful. Way too hot for turn 1. gravel trap, bounce bounce bounce and then downIdiot2
Well i gained 18hp (according to dyno) and around 6 ft/lbs torque up top but lost a little torque around 3500 to 4500 which is where i used to spend most time road riding. The biggest gain was weight saving. Brocks systems are one of the lightest around. My bike went from 260kg stock to 236kg just in exhaust only. If you race/drag then they are great but for road only stick to yoshimura. Akrapovic are a bit road/race but excellent qualityPi_thumbsup
