1, our repair info should be shared with all but ,maybe its time to think of a fee ,
i mean Maj ,simmo and a few others info is priceless ,
2, it doesnt have to that expensive!
3, I to think the same as Dale, id like to help by paying a membership fee!

i know it costs to run a sight as i own one ,i own 3x different names have bought the rights and set it all up ,cost me around $400. but i didnt publish it just yet as im being a little bit of a karnt, long story, lol

Dear all, Few years ago the issue of paid membership and fees etc. was discussed to death and there is really no need to go there now. The Club's Administration have decided then that we will not have a paid membership. The costs of running the Club will be covered through donations and fund-risers. Rod also clearly said that there will be no advertising or marketing ads as a form of raising money and kudos to him for that. We are probably the only club that is free of marketing bulshit and that is excellent news, so lets keep it like that as long as we can. Please let not deviate from the issue at hand which is the membership requirements for this Club. Otherwise this whole discussion will turn into a complete mess and the waste of time and effort like many times in similar situations before.
So please no more about fees and payments. Please read the previous posts to keep this discussion focused. Cheers.

"the membership requirements for this club" - being the AHC.
Under the banner of - Being a AHC member to me.

Membership requirements...
Being a forum based club, it has merits and downsides, though its not likely to change as pointed out already. When you split hairs and start creating titles, that creates responsibilities pursuant to said titles, which involve work, and thus jobs are necessary.

Someone pointed out that organization and structure doesn't make things complicated...well, not for that person but for others it actually does, as the workload and information flows get spread it becomes harder to track, therefore meetings are required, forms to lodge, finances to control and watch, and then begins the politics..

What we have now isn't broken (is it?).. don't fix it?

I'm sure that plenty of un-thanked work gets done already, and thank you to those that do it. I've been a VP of a car club, I know the work involved with a formulated charter / non profit / monthly meetings / phone calls / time etc. etc.

I'm also sure, like myself, there are lurkers and guests who like seeing what we do, how we do it, where and even when we do it, incentive to experience? The next guy to sign up might be an outdoor camping equipment expert, willing to share thoughts, he might ride a enduro currently, and found us via an oddball quirk of internets and photo's some camping gear on a busa, i'd still be interested in his kind of input...or queries.

With bike ownership these days and prior being so transient and fickle, I rekon keep the interest alive by continuing to share, leave the membership requirements be, i'm interested in how the world relates to me and my bike, lets also allow the world to relate to us and our interest/s.

Being an AHC member to me....
I signed up online, FoC, I didn't have to send monies to a secretary of funds or get voted in or have a cooling off vetting period, I'm a member, though I don't have a membership card that states my full name and gives me a number or barcode to be scanned, I don't have to flash it to get discounts, I don't have to flash it to get entry to "our area", and I don't display any form of recognition outside this forum.

What do I have now then? a mature base of knowledge I'd wish I'd found prior to buying my bike, so thankful I've found it. It has opened my head, eyes, and opportunities I didn't have prior. Met some great people thus far, given and taken advice freely, had some laughs, ride opportunities I can just turn up to. The participation level is mine, the time commitment is mine, I get out of it what I put in. I'm fairly sure if I had a desire to oddball something, lets say to chopperise a postie bike, i'd get a lot straighter help here than almost anywhere else bias free, albeit with probably some good natured ribbing.

I can share and discuss the common interests we all have, and see what others are doing, I'd never heard of that bucket racing before looks cool as hell, brand reviews, riding generally, tips from guys who've done more k's or years of experience than me, or in turn offering my 2c worth to help others if I can, modifying for different purposes.. all cool as hell to me.

I'd hate to think i'd lose all that, if my wrists gave out and I had to ride cruiser.

Sorry for the longish post, I didn't think I had much to say about this but apparently I did.

I have just asked to focus on the issue and read (not just skip) the previous posts to understand what this is about. You have wrote a long post with a lot of right comments which are however completely unrelated to the topic and this just indicates that you missing it completely. The issue is SHOULD WE BE HANDING OUT A CLUB MEMBERSHIPS JUST TO EVERYONE OR SHOULD THERE THERE BE SOME BASIC CRITERIA (OWING THE HAYABUSA) FOR IT. It has nothing to do with payments, charters, barcodes, meeting people, being a part of this Forum and pretty much everything else you wrote about. Sorry Thompy, could you please give your view on the issue we are trying (very hard) to discuss ?

Shifu.. I think you have missed the point of the topic for this thread

Maybe I was a bit vague with my title but the thread was supposed to let everyone express what being a AHC member meant to them and nothing more. If you want to hav e a specific focus on a topic then you should start your own thread on it. I am sure many will be involved in the debate, including myself.

in th spirit I intended the thread, please feel free to tell us all how you see yourself as a member of the Australian Hayabusa Club, what it means to you and the things you enjoy, or get pissed off about with it...

I should add that I have no problem with your topic being discussed on this thread as long as others are free to view their opinion on the main topic...

Tony, I was thinking about starting the new thread but since this one was already has a lot of posts on this issue (and you have started it in response to my comments in New Members Introduction area) I didn't see the need for it. Still, you are right, I have hijacked your thread.
Please accept my apologies.

Shifu. I took the time to read all (not skip) the previous posts on two pages. I was very hesitant to post what I did, because I DO understand the issue, the statements made, and the context.

Pretty sure I addressed it, YES, we should give out memberships to individuals who sign up regardless of ownership of a Busa.

If someone has an interest in the bike, or what the people on them (us) do, and take the time to sign up and participate, let them.

Dunno if it's going to matter to anyone here but it's my opinion and I'm gonna give it to you!!!!

I first heard of the Hayabusa (or saw one for that matter) when I caught up with Vitto the day we met up with the SA crew in Tumut on the run to Tathra two years ago.

I was on a DL650 -I still have- just going to meet people who enjoyed riding bikes, and to have a fun weekend away.

We stayed overnight at Cooma, where Greeny saw fit to call me Mr Sensible because I had bought the DL to do what I wanted to do -more comfort than a trail bike, but still capable of off road.

I had a great trip, met some fantastic people, and wasn't in the slightest bit interested in buying a 'busa. I came home from that trip and signed up as a member because I wanted to stay in touch with the PEOPLE I'd met, not their bikes.

A few months went by and I found myself sitting at home with a broken leg, my wife in hospital and I was looking after our three kids.

As a release I was haunting the forum, and happened to see that Heidi had just bought herself a gen II at a great rate, and just out of curiosity asked her how much she wanted for the Gen I.

After a few messages back and forth I took a trip to Canberra and a deal was struck. The Mrs wasn't too pleased at a third bike at home, on top of all the other boy toys laying about but she has learned to live with it.

The sense of welcome, and the breadth and depth of knowledge is what made me come and stay on this forum, not the "presteige" of the Hayabusa, Frankly I don't care much for the brands of vehicles, Ford or Holden, Suzuki or Kawasaki, at the right price I'd pilot them all.

So now I own a Hayabusa I meet the criteria for membership, but honestly I'm not that fanatical about them, so does that mean I'm a member or an Associate? Does it really matter? Not to me!
