Got a question (2008 Gen2 Hayabusa)....cant upload pics FB driving me insane...did my plugs and when I was about to put it all back together again noticed inside the breather hose...right hand side that leads to filter box...inside the hose was a red plug...damaged and slightly angled...wasnt properly blocking hose....now im wondering was it left in there by mistake when bike was made or was it put in there for a reason....rang Suzuki but as usual they don't know their own bikes...gotta put my bike back together so don't know whether or not to leave it out or squeeze it back in...then thinkn why have a breather hose then block it...arrrrrrrrrrrrr

sounds like the PAIR system mod? (blocking it off) some guys use a marble.
I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of that mod, to know exactly, but I thought blocking the breather was part of it.

Yeah, as Paul said it looks like a PAIR mod but the marble does a better job of it. You can pull it out, connect it back and go for a ride. If you bike is running rich as most of them do (specially with aftermarket exhaust) you will certainly hear it. I had to do this mode after changing to Akra and having ECU flashed.
I would reccomend a visit to a dyno to be sure. Biker

Wouldn't that be lean Shifu? I thought they set them up lean to pass EPA regs...

No mate. Initially I thought that as well. Mine almost blew the new Akra cans off untill I had the PAIR blocked on advice from Peter (Fasterfaster). You are right though that this system is helping with EPA regulations but in a different way. The PAIR system allows the extra air flow into the headers to allow the complete burning of the excess fuel so that none escapes into the atmosphere. When I had mine on dyno we were leaning the mixture to get the maximum power out. The bike is also better on fuel now.Pi_thumbsup

There is no way to lean the mixture off other than flashing right?

That's right, and the extra fuel helps ensure the catalytic converters 'stay lit' thus ensuring complete burning of any stray hydrocarbons and other nasties.

Well, there is providing you have the right equipment. You can edit your fuel maps using the ECU Editor, the wideband sensor and the data logger. Without it you would be really poking in the dark and could potentially damage the engine. Every motor is unique so even loading the maps from other tuned bikes does not garantee the optimum performance. The best is to take it to the dyno. They usually even give you a copy of your map if you ever change the ECU.
