Hey all,
Bike died yesterday on the Putty Road......instrument panel went blank and engine stopped.....could it be fuse related, or bad earth? What should I be looking for?
Any help would be appreciated as I'm totally useless when it comes to electrical stuff.

Main fuse would be my first call.

Happened to my gen 1 a couple of months ago and turned out to be the rectifier?

Try the simplest things first like fuse and terminals connecton. Most of them have locking cathes but sometime they can break off and plugs can get loose. Also the battery could be dead

Brand new battery installed about a month ago.

How do you diagnose a faulty rectum-frier?

Would check the battery terminal first my 04 did the same in traffic, tighten terminal havent fail again.

How do you diagnose a faulty rectum-frier?
The fuse box in Gen 1 that will be LH side under the nose. In front of the left fork next to the turn indicator relay. Looks like a pain to get to it

How do you diagnose a faulty rectum-frier? Rectum-frier!!
Check the output voltage.
Change it over for another one I had lying around.

The Main fuse on a Gen 1 is located towards the rear of the bike left side of cpu very hard to get at you might need to loosen rear tail.
Then check all your earths just follow the earth lines from battery and clean and tighten .

Cheers all......will hook into it during the week (when I've got some daylight) and let you know what I find. If anyone else has any ideas, please chime in, I'll be checking regularly.

mine did a similar thing 6 months ago ,mine died everytime you opened up the throttle the bike died ,it turned out to be a bared battery power wire hitting on the frame .this in turn blew the main fuse

Start with the terminals , with a new battery only reciently its possible they were not tight enough, then the main fuse where Rod described
usually have to half take the tail off on the left side to get to it,& its under the white plastic cover on the starter relay

Just out of idle curiosity do they purposly put things that should be easily accesable in the most difficult places or places that mean dismantling half the bike? I want to top up my rear brake res and it looks like I will have to remove the whole rear fairing.
Also those diabolical fasteners and positions...surely they could have come up with something better? Maybe that should be the mods they do to the next gen....as well as bumping it up to 1450 cc...lol
