Hi all,
I've finally decided to have a crack at this drag racing thing. Bike is a Gen II with PAIR block off plates, dyno tune, yoshi slip-ons, quick turn throttle and -1 front + 2 rear gearing. It is currently at stock height. Heaps of fun on the street but for getting the best out of her for the 1/4, what should i do with regards to the gearing and which is the best method for lowering the bike whilst still being able to ride on the street. Also is the clutch mod a necessity ? Your advice is much appreciated. Rider weight is about 110 kgs if that helps with setup suggestions.

G'day Huffy, glad to hear your going to have a run at the drags. The clutch mod is not essential but does make the bike easier and more pleasant to launch. As for your gearing.....one down on front, two up on the rear is a great all round starting point. To lower your bike there are many varieties of adjustable lowering links available for the rear and buy a lowering strap for the front. This keeps it streetable if required. Where and when do you plan on your first run. Cheers Rob

Hey Ahmed. Set of straps up front (I have Brock's Performance radial mounts) and a set of dog bones or adjustables for the rear. The dog bones are about $50 and up. The Brock's gear is probably the more expensive end of the market but I swear by them now. From memory they were $165, got mine from Shayne at Cyanide. He's here on the forum.

Is there a decent front lowering setup that doesn't involve the strap as I am thinking of perhaps leaving it lowered for riding on the street. I have seen adjustable links for sale online but don't know if they are any good. I was also concerned that the -1 front +2 rear gearing may be too aggressive for the drag strip. Thoughts ? Thanks again for any opinions and advice.

Gearingwise maybe better off with a standard gearing.i have found that even then the front wants co come up and the wheelies is the problem in the first and maybe in the second gear too, dont be worried if the first time you not running 10s it is all a learning game .
after some practice the times will improve and before you know it you will be doing low tens easy and strapping it should get you into nines

WTF, 10.1, How much do you weigh?
When you say stock, (re-read, stock height) how stock, people have a relative take on stock.
At 115 kg odd in riding gear my PB has been a 10.37, after 2 x test & tune nights @ my first meeting with the 'Busa - Stock, basically...
I do know it is lean so can do better, but it's a LONG way from 10.37 to 10.1.
I sure got pull something outa somewhere & improve...
Clutch mod is first on the list now I have a shed.
Good luck with your first time out on the 'Busa Huffy.
I assume you have run a bike down the strip before...

Zrex1200.
to be exact it was a 10.181
i have been down the drags before but i dont go every week or even every 1 or 2 months i usually go when im due for a set of tyres so i can do some burnouts and have some fun.
i weigh 87kg + leathers, helmet etc.
and the bike its self i have had it for about 3 months done nothing to it and when i say stock the bike is stock exept aftermarket mufflers nothing else no clutch mod, not lowerd, no extended swing arm,
im off to the drags this wednesday to try and improve
Zrex1200 good luck with your times.

I was there and saw it! Stock for Wayne means OEM Stock [except for mufflers], not "Pan stock" [titanium exhaust, carbon fibre wheels, chopped undertail, lowering links, BTL mod, etc]

Actually ZRX1200 it is my first time down the drag strip. It will be an interesting learning curve but I am so excited.
