Hey guys i just brought the December issue of Rapid Bikes today and there is a good write up on the Hayabusa vs the ZX14. Although the writer/tester favours the ZX14 because of its new tech they still think the busa is one of the best bikes in the world. I reckon if push came to shove a gen2 or even a gen1 would give the ZX14 and good run for its money on the roads. If it comes to the track it might be a different story i think. (but see what happens with the new 2013 model with its upgrades) Its a good read plus heads of other good stuff as well like a R1 Turbo Street Fighter. If you have plenty of spare time in your work day or you gonna go to the lab have a read.

Interesting.
I think it's like the GSXR/ZX10/S1RR comparison.
When your pushing bikes like the Busa and ZX14
to their limit there's normaly more difference in the
riders than in the bikes.

So true, the other day on the freeway I gave the girl a blurt. out of nowhere came this triumph triple, so I back off, he backs off after a couple k's , I backed right off, too many cars around the boy racer took off ducking and weaving through the traffic, left him too it, his balls must be bigger than mine

2. Make it heavy.
3. Make it stronger than it should be.
4. Don't rush the first job as the second job will cost more and take more time..

Over the last 8 years on rides I've left behind most top end sportsbikes.
Section after section they couldnt / wouldnt sit with the Busa.
I've ridden with guys, one on an old R6 and one on his track day SV650
that I couldnt even keep them in sight unless it was a long open section where
the Busa could stretch its legs. I like to think im average (at best) but
the range of riders ability is HUGE. When we had similar bikes I could NOT
sit with a well known rider from this forum, yet i've ridden with guys who have
quicker bikes and I have to wait at junctions !
All this BMW top speed, ZX14R horsepower, Kwak ZX10 bla bla bla is great,
I dont doubt any of it, but in the real world the rider makes a massive
difference, and a Busa is close enough to worry anything in its class.

I've just been on a ride for four days with a new 14...mines unrestricted and all that but there was nothing in it. A bloke had an old 12 that I could never shake...even upto $3+... Apart from those bum ugly lights, I like the 14. He had one in black with carbon Yoshi's, very nice...

I love passing the latest/greatest sportbikes with all their carbon fibre doing trackdays on my stock standard, nearly 14 year old "big old heavy out of date 'busa." Always strikes up many a conversation in the pits afterwards. On the road it's all accademic, just depends who wants to keep their licence.
I don't want a pickle . . .

It is nice to know that there arent too many bikes out there to take out a busa, especially in a straight line, its a shame some little 600's think they can.

Even worse when it's a knob in a loud commodore. Wanker tried to entice me into a drag race on Albany Highway outside Carousel yesterday. Took off in a cloud of rubber smoke and got about 100 metres before he had to stop. He must have been really frustrated when I filtered through the stopped cars to the lights and gained 50 car lengths on him!

Before I bought my new K12 Busa I rode the ZX14 back to back with a Busa (twice about two months apart). The Busa just felt right both times. Yeah the ZX14 is supposed to be the latest and greatest, but it's riding position is much more upright and the suspension felt a lot softer. The Busa was just planted rock solid, so there was no other choice as far as I was concerned. Plus it was over 3K cheaper.
