As far as I know Bill, it's illegal to park a "vehicle" on a footpath. No matter what.
(Except in Vic where you can legally park motorbikes on the footpath)

In Vic it is only legal if you park on the footpath at the kerb edge.
It is illegal to park any bike on a footpath against a building edge.

Looks to me like the bike is inside the building alignment being on the other side of the support pylon. This means that you are parking on private property, not on a public street....in which case you can't be given a ticket.
I'd defend it...
If you want to make absolutely sure you can check the street boundaries with the local council in the area where you were given the ticket. They will have diagrams.
In politics stupidity is not a handicap.

Damn that sux. I do it all the time around Sydney and never had a problem. Can't see why we can't adopt Vic rules.

$86 is surprisingly cheap for N. Sydney. My last few parking tickets in Balmain and Liverpool have been over $230.

You know how bikes don't have to pay for parking in times areas in the City of Sydney...? Well I got done last week for leaving my bike for 1 hour in a 4 hour zone on Hospital Roa (next to the Domain. I rang the MCC and they explained that Hospital Road is run by the Domain, and they don't accept the City of Sydney rules... Bastards.
Bill, ring the MCC and ask them, then email them the photo. They'll tell you if it's worth fighting or not.
