Hi All
My Brother in law is coming off his restricted license soon and wants to upgrade his bike to something bit more suited to the road.
He has been looking at Gsxr600s and has asked me to help.
I only ever had 2 bikes, an Across and A Busa, so i am not the schooled on whats good or bad.
He's looking for 2nd hand and wants to spend upto bout $8k.
Any tips or advise would be appreciated!

Unless he's set on a SPORT bike, with full fairing and a crouch position to match, the Suzuki GSR 600 (naked) built with resemblance to the B king style of road warrior,
might suit him perfectly. The handling, power and overall package is extremely user friendly as well as thrilling to ride. If you want to be a bit more up to date, there's the GSR 750, though perhaps not at the kind of price you are thinking.
A low mileage GSR 600 would be a sensational all rounder, or if you don't mind going a bit further back (in years, say an 06 or 07 model) a low mileage Honda Hornet 919 would also be terrific. If that's not enough muscle, there is only one other bike that's really great value just now and that is the Suzuki GSX 1400. They are very easy to ride and maintain, + they are bullet proof and they have stump-pulling torque. I'd buy one of those myself...
My vote is for a vfr750/800.
Comfy (position and fairing), fast, v4 character and good looking (single-sided swingarm looks awesome)

+1 , but only if he feels he can handle stepping up to that straight away. Some people can, and some should never go beyond a step thru(if he's the latter - also suggest he join the Ullysees club  )

Buy a Gen2 Busa and have it locked in to C Mode somehow .
After a while move him up to B Mode ..

+1.....'94 VFR750 was my first faired road bike........loved it, great 1st bike......that V4 sound is music!!!!

My son came off a Gs 500 straight onto 05 R1.
He couldn't believe the power of the R1 but got used to it after a while and never had a problem. So maybe instead of a 600 get a Gixxer 1000 05 to 06 model as they go great. I used to own one.

I'd say GSXR 750 or a 1000. With 600 after a while he will be wanting more power. For that money 06 to 08 model would be easy to find and there is a lot of info on mods/bling etc to make it more interesting.

id go the 1000, earlier in the week i picked up a 07 gsxr1000 for only $7700, so there are plenty of good deals around
100000kms in 23 months, not too bad

the 14, to my mind, is surely THE CLASSIC in the making and possibly one of the the most outstanding bikes ever made. You'll have BIG HEAP FUN on it and also if you ever wanted to mod it to a street fighter or cafe racer, it will also look sensational! One on my wish list!
