Clutch basket

The bloke in Penrith (forgot his name, sorry) said it's just wear and tear or something on the clutch basket rear gear or something but not mechanically a problem - just swap it out for a newer one to quieten it down.

Is that right?

Cos I can do that job and would get onto it this summer - running out of reasons to strip the bike down, but that would be a good one.

I replaced my clutch basket on the recommendations of my local shop. I had a fine pitched tinging noise. So I replaced the roller bearing first, no good, noise still there. "has to be the clutch basket itself", so I replaced the clutch basket with a new one - result, Noise still there.
Resulting in I have a brand new clutch basket and my old one is 70K old and makes no noise. If you want to try another, It's just in my spares box now, you're welcome to put it in and see if your noise goes. No cost apart from freight. These suckers weigh!

Would be wasted on me.Frown My riding has come down from 50,000 a year to 1-7,000km a year in recent years and with plod now so viciously manning the route to work, my top speed rarely hits 120km. I've done that journey in 55 minutes, but now it's at least an hour and a quarter.

Love that converter clutch too, but mechanical porn is as about as useful as bling on my bike.Embarassed
Don't forget to come down at least 2 teeth on ya rear sprocket

I'm going to go with Max's experience on this and assume the noise won't get much better swapping it out.

Took it out on a decent run today, paid more attention to my gear changing technique and with ear plugs, helmet and engine noise I can't hear anything along the M4 anyway. It's working perfectly with no signs of blowing up, so I'll be buggered if I get into something that MIGHT work.

Thanks all!

If the noise gets worse give me a yell and you can swap this one in for nix mate, not a hard job - or you can drop down to Canberra and I'll do the job for you. All you'll need is a new clutch cover gasket.

Best offer I can make, I'm off work for another three weeks and have sweet f*** all to do anyway!

Cheers
