I bought a brand new Yuasa battery last year and it died within 6 weeks.
I picked it up "Ready to go" from Battery World and was told it had been pre charged so I could get straight on the road.
It appears that the person who prepared it, charged it on a car battery charger overnight. This caused it to "sulphate" AND die. Battery World refunded my money in full after two days of their testing procedure.
I later read that a bike battery should be put on a very light trickle charge only for 4 to 6 hours unless it is a smart charger that cuts off as the battery reaches it prime condition.
The el cheapo battery that I replaced the Yuasa with was half the price and has been super strong so far.

amazing how some have had bad experiences with yuasa considering some of us are still on the oem yuasa. sounds like user negligence except for busgos bad preperation. optimate is a trickle charger I had it on for 3 months whilst overseas and alls great. <i></i>
Well, the original lasted 6 years. Because I dopn't get out much, I hook it up to a trickle charger, not every time, but pretty regularly while it sits in the garage. Yesterday, after being trickled for a few days, it didn't have the strength to pull the proverbial custard skin.
So I got a new Yuasa ($93) std battery.
Filled it, charged it at just under 1 amp for around 5 hrs (all as per instructions) and it's away laughing!
I'll seal the terminals with anti corosion gunk and see how long it lasts. <i></i>

While we're talking about batteries, when mine gave out 12 months ago I opted to try one of those Deka Power Sports solid core batteries. No vent tubes, no checking, no acid leaks and these things have charge to burn. It cost a little more ($135 for the ETX15L which fit my old CBR, but I think thats the same one they suggest for the bus). For those of you that want a battery that can support a few extra accessories its probably the answer to your prayers. I'm very happy with it - mind you, I've been happy with all my batteries until the day thay stopped working. I think they also come with a 3 year warranty.... but I've misplaced the docs, so check on that before you consider buying one.

yeah well I've hooked up my backyarder trickle charger too now since all these batt probs.
just a pos neg set of wires that run sort of hidden but accessable to c onnector to the charger.
No need to take seat off or anything.
2 bucks to do if you already have a charger.
Just plug in and away to charge... Cheers,

Optimate comes with a rubber waterproof link/connector which I've permanently hooked on the bike, so after a ride the trickle charge plugs straight into the bike.

I've got a different product, but same here. Permanently connected to the bike and plug in at the end of each day of riding. My plug is hidden under the hump. Everyone should have one. <i></i>
I've got a "Projecta" trickle charger. Its fully automatic an I've got it permaently set up in the shed. When I had a standard wet cell type battery I'd plug it into the bike after every ride. At the moment, I've got a solid core battery (and it really holds its charge well) so I only plug it in once a week. The charge light goes off after 2 minutes so its probably not worth the effort but its a habit. The older I get, the better I was. Regards.... Rob<i></i>
Ok guys what is the deal how long before the battery needs replacing this is my secon in 4 years and the little fucker just wont start the bike if it sits more than 4 days so i found out the hard way and with what happened to my starter gear last time it wont start I wont keep trying 18K and 2 batteries is this ok or is something fishy going on Cheers Bill
