bike wont start....

Anyone got any ideas as to why my bike wont start.
At the mo when i try to start as per the norm, all i get is the relay clicks every time i push the starter button. Have checked the connectionsfrom the button to the relay & starter motor and everything looks good.
BUT...
When i short the terminals on the relay it cranks over and starts...
Has me & the guys at the work shop stuffed.


Any ideas?

If you short the relay and it starts, and when you push the button you get voltage to the relay (it clicks) Then the relay must be buggered.

yep that what i thought so i got a brand new one and is still doing the same.

If its the big (one connected to battery and the other to starter) terminals you are shorting then it sounds like the relay contacts are stuffed.

unless - when the relay "clicks" does the switching voltage drop?
Could be grounding somewhere - but in that case I reckon you'd blow a fuse.

I'd swap the relay 1st.

Strip the bike down over a weekend of beers with the footie on in the background. Every electrical fault I've found has not been subtle once you remove all the stuff it's hiding behind.

Then get what's needed from a wrecker and splice it in. It's great fun and you'll know where to start if it does it again down the line.

Starter relay needs an active clutch switch to complete the circuit,
try bridging the clutch switch terminals , if that works replace the switch don't just leave it bridged , affects other things...

the clutch switch is the 2 wires under the clutch master vitto ,

That is under the Clutch leaver you will see the two wires at bike end of leaver

so to me that must be ok. god dam this bike is bout to meet mr fuel & mr lighter....

that rules that out then start at the battery check all earth conections then work your way along the line .
if you plan to bridge something to check it does not hurt to use a fuse

yeah i have tried that to the best of my abilitys mmm time to find some one good at this sort of stuff.... can anyone recomend some one in north east vic?
