G'Day, I have an 04 Busa with about 15,000km on it.
When I start it up from cold I get this light rattling sound in the motor. It is a simular sound to that if one of your scews it loose on your faring and it ralltles when ridding along.
Could it be that I need a new timing chain, or can you adjust these or do you just replace them?
Also how long should you get from a timing chain.
The bike is a daily rider and isn't rodden hard. Mostly in the 3-5000rpm range with the ocasional hard rev.
Any information greatly appreciated.
sounds like the cam chain tensioner does the noise go away after warm up?, make sure all the recalls were done on the bike. you can always call Suzuki who should be able to tell you with your vin number. otherwise have it checked out, CCT goes=engine sieze=rebuild.
You should have the "good"timing chain tensioner std on an 04.
Pretty bulletproof engine by then , best get a trusted dealer to listen,
Thanks for the replys.
I have had the bike since new and haven't had or been told about any recalls on the bike.
Is there any recals on the 04 Busa that you are aware of?
The noise doese go away once the bike has warmed up.
I also have a gear position sensor installed to eliminate the engine retarder. It was installed when the bike had about 5,000km on the clock. All that it has done is make the idel and choke starting a little different.

no 04 didnt have those recall issues, shuda mentioned meant for early models. supposedly the CCT can be a bit noisy prior to knotching itself up as its auto, but always a good idea to have it all checked out by an authorised dealership.
Also - check your oil level. Especially if you don't fill it yourself. If the level is just a bit down it shows up with a noisy top end for a minute or two on start up.

I'm not using it anyway!
Thanks for the info.
From what I have read it sounds like the timing chain could be alright.
I am going to give it an oil and filter change on the weekend.
At the moment it is running 15/50w oil.
Is this oil ok for it as it doesn't get red lined or even reved past 9,000rpm hardly.
Am I better to go for somthing like the fully systhetic oil or is this going a bit over the top?
Thanks again.
so far Im sticking with Motul semi synthetic, been good.
