Hi Everyone, I have a 99 busa with just on 40k and was advised this would be a good time to check the clearances. What's everyone's thoughts on this. Also have read irridium plugs thread and unsure which plug to go for. bike will be mainly used at the drags. Look forward to some help.
Hey Ian you forgot to mention that the bike also fogs up quite well.

thanks paul, the photo came thru nicely from the weekend. it will be doing bigger skids at the drags this season. getting some tyres this week. ian
Revit,
I had mine checked at 50k and they were still within handbook tolerance settings.
I now have nearly 90k on the bike and they don't seem any different. I'll get them checked again at 100k.

"TAKE MY ADVICE"
I'm not using it anyway!
As above for me too................
Don't know wether I'll even bother at 100 000 klms???
But for piece of mind...............
Don't waste your money on iridium pulgs. Full Stop!

thanks guys. i pickup the bike tommorrow and he was checking the clearances to be safe. at least i know these 1300's are as strong as the old skool gsxr1100's for reliability. As for the plugs i will be using the standard ngk's. can't wait to pick the machine up so i can ring its neck
ive been using ngk's twin head types for long while now, no complaints.
61k on my bike, have not to date checked valve clearance. am inclined to do it myself one day but hesitant due to not having done it before.
I don't know anyone who has done this on any site in the UK, US oe here who has needed to do anything with the valves - right up to 200,000km+.
Mine has 130,000km-ish, and I'm more worried about the CCT. Mind you I don't drag and ride it like a scooter.
had them inspected and mechanic claims 3 valves would be up for adjustment in about 12000 kays. This will surely spark some comment but i will present the bike to another trusted mechanic and at that time if needed i will get the top end freshened up with some porting etc. Bike runs like a steam train so i am not overly concerned.
Your mechanic should have recorded all the clearances for future reference in your service book .... did he ?...
I've checked two bikes at 45000 & they were all in tolerance with only one valve on the tolerance.
Haven't really heard of anyone who has had to pull the cams out to adjust them even at high mileages, must be somebody..........anybody ?
