I've just completed the clutch push rod mod that stops the fluid getting dark. I didn't use a milk bottle top, I bought a part from a guy in Germany.
I urge every busa owner to take the front sprocket cover off and have a look. What you find will horrify you. The older your bike, the worse it will be - I have a 2000. Buy a specialist part, use a milk bottle top or just regularly clean it, but don't do nothing.
I have taken pictures from beginning to end, (it's an easy mod), but can't post them. If anyone can put them here for me I will gladly send them on. This has to be seen to be believed. Yuck!D"> <i></i>

Cover Mod
I am happy now that I've got the cover, but I've got second thoughts on it actually stopping the cluid from going dark. I'd still be putting a cover over it however, a part like that should be exposed to such an amount of crap.
Half the fault is probably my own, being a bit too generous with that crap they call lubricant. Will be trying something less gunky next time.

Yeah Slong, I saw your pictures, but my shit makes your shit look clean. What year is your bike? I had heaps of black sticky slime more acquainted with truck axles. I took off about two thirds of a coffee mug full. Real yucky!
The screw that holds the gear shift lever onto the bike, snapped when I unscrewed it. I don't think the front sprocket area has ever seen the light of day since the bike first hit the road in 2000. One benefit is that I put the lever back on at a better angle. My shifts are sooo sweet now it's like having a new bike.
Volvi: There's a couple of parts out there - all over-priced if you're a machinist.
The guy in Germany is Kojak. I'll find his e.mail and post it. He's realiable, which is why I chose him over the U.S guys. I paid $46US plus postage - I just didn't want to have a milk bottle top on my bike. <i></i>
i wonder if you let the gunk build up, it eventually hardens to the point of sealing the push rod. No more gunk getting in, perfect solution <i></i>

well I am on an '03 but it has been wet (surprise surprise).
I was talking to Ron at Balls and what he said made a lot of sense. If the clutch fluid is dark coz of gunk getting in, then clutch fluid must also get out. If no clutch fluid is getting out, then what's the problem (unless gunk in = fluid out, then of course the level of fluid will not change, oops )

The cush drive is not an issue, you need to rack up lot's of KM's for that to cark it, so that counts out 98% of the virtual riders around here (or there)
