I'm curious about what is meant by "breaking in the bike hard (properly)".
The new Busa gets delivered tomorrow and this is the first time I've owned a new bike that needs to be broken in.
If there's another way I should be breaking it in other than as per the owners manual, I'd really like to hear about it.

It's worth taking to a mechanic with a dyno to break in the first 20Kms properly.
Someone before mentioned only a marginal power gap, but it's considered better for the engine AFAIK.

That's the trouble though mate, I'm not trolling but it's mass hysteria that forces a slow break in.

I have 500 k's on my bike. I use a combination of riding it hard through the gears and taking it easy.

The secret is not to lug it.

Anything is better than just driving like granny during break-in because the suits at Suzuki tell you to.

Lug it = Ride it at low RPM in 5th or 6th. Even though it will pull 5th or 6th easy at low RPM, you should let it rev - i.e. use a lower gear.

Ignore the 'not above 5500 RPM' crap as well. Don't flog it, but let it rev.

The trick is to let the engine warm up before you rev it too much - i.e. start it and ride off, but take it easy until the temp gauge starts to move.

Thanks everyone for the heads up and advice.

arent all engines pre run in these days, if so no problem. I have been told by a few people (quite a long time ago) to break it in the way you intend to ride it. Lets face it most of us probably dont see to much redline a lot of the time, there is no need when you buy a 1300, torque is a wonderfull thing.

Reckon I might have to put it on a different dyno just so i feel better about those figures...haha. Still goes like the clappers so that's all that counts....

Gravy,
Your figures are spot on I reckon, mine was around 171 with map supplied by Brock, after another run and custom map installed was making around 174 +-, so to those who are saying they are getting around 200HP with out working the motor are full of you know what.

For the record my 08 bike has Brock 4-1 titanium system, PC111, K&N, velocity stacks, BP ultimate fuel used.

To put this issues to rest once and for all and prove that 200 rear wheel HP on essentially a standard bike is not possible I would be interested in arranging a dyno day in Perth.
who is up for it?

Dave

I'll participate in your study, where are you going to get it dynoed?
