I use to wave as its normal in US to wave (picked the habit in US) - but in Australia Noding is more common. Hence I now only Nod.

On a dual carrige highway I'll stand up and give a mad one-armed wave if I'm bored. Usually gets a similar reaction from whoever is going the other way, makes 'em laugh.

Must have been you riding along the Monash Freeway about 15 months ago Heidi, because that's the exact reception I got from a rider coming the other way one morning. It was hillarious!!!

I only wave to let others know there's a speed-trap up ahead. The rest of the time, I nod.

IT IS!! You can actually see them laughing themselves silly as they go past. it makes me happy and breaks up the trip.

Always wave unless both hands are needed or otherwise nod.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.

It depends on how many bikes I encounter...there's a subconcious tally going in my head (not sure what the figure is) and once I reach it I stop/ refuse to wave or nod...there's only so many people you can give the nod to before you look like a toy dog on the parcel shelf!

Ya feel like a bit of a bonehead nodding to each and every bike when there are 12 in a freight-train line-up.....i nod to the 1st and maybe the 3rd one....and then i'll stand up and do the Rossi exiting pit-lane "crotch-grab" to the rest!!!

I recon riding is like driving a land rover (I used to drive one of those for work and for pleasure)
nod, wave, what ever you do, I recon show your friendship and comradeship of 2 wheels to the other guy or girl no matter the pedigree they have chosen.

Hell, even some of the Ducrapi posers won't look at a Jap bike.

I was coming back from the city heading down Anzac pde and rode past a young chick on a postie bike gave her the nod and she waved back. Stopped at a set of lights she pulled up next to me and had a good look at my bike (was on the 675) I couldnt help it and reved my bike ready to drag her and she pissed her self. Lights went green I took off to the speed limit she caught up and waved again then turned right and i waved back. Some car drivers must have thought I was a dick but we both thought it was funny ass!

Here's adding to the equation.
Do you also give a nod or a wave to cops on bikes? In my experiences some do return the gesture but a lot don't. |
