Hey all
I haven't missed a dawn service in 20 years and I find myself in Western Sydney tonight. Does anyone know where there is one in Western Sydney? There must be one. I don't fancy trecking into the city at 4.30am!
S'OK! Just rang Blacktown RSL, found one. Bloody early.

Lay a flower for my pop while your there please Heidi ............. he was one of the lucky one's landed Gallipoli and came home ................ but always thoughts of what he must have endured still live on in stories he told me as a child. Simpson and his donkey being but one of them !
Sixty one thousand five hundred and twenty two Australian soldiers lost their lives in the 1st world war as well as another eighteen thousand where wounded. "Lest we forget"
At least we best not forget.
Note ............. I believe thats over the entire capacity of the MCG that never came home

How early is dawn up there!
Just got back from the dawn service at the Simpson Barracks, good service there! Now about to have a feed and then get ready for the RSL March in Watsonia. I'm given the honour of bearing the RAAF flag for the first time, which has extra meaning for me personally, my grandad served for the RAAF, he was involved in the Battle of Britain, was at the Darwin airport as it was being bombed, the Paciffic Islands and Burma, needless to say I'm proud of my Grandad! Have a great ANZAC day to all!
Woman,where's my wallet?
And whats for tea?

Hey Heidi
We were at the dawn service at Blacktown RSL this morning at 4.30am because our 3 teenagers were part of the Army Cadet unit that attended, then they marched in the city.
It was a shame that it rained. It would have been good to have caught up with you.

20 years dawn service history. - Dedicated
Ride to the Rock. Awesome
Ride around the country. Mamoth
Wield a grinder and fix a trailer. Gritty
Track day racer. Balsy
Not attending dawn service coz of a little bit of rain. - Priceless
Or.... it is the first year I have been without my grandfather and he is the reason I've never missed one and I lost my grandmother less than two weeks ago. After every dawn service I would ring and tell them all about the service I'd been to and Pard would complain about the powdered eggs he was served at the servicemen's breakfast and I'd tell him about the weather or the singing at mine.
Maybe I just couldn't face it this year without that phone call.

ya might have hit the nail right on the head there, Heidi......
my dad died 10 years ago, & I still to this day cannot watch a copy of the video of his burial (we had his funeral here, and then his body was shipped back to his birth country for burial, as per his wishes).
.......grief can be a real bitch, sometimes.

Yeah, ok. Or that.
Foot in mouth anyone?
Seriously, no offence intended. I am not close to anyone who is associated with this worthwhile event. Which probably contributed to my short sighted comments.
Maybe not the best time to try and pull a funny. Sorry.
S'ok. Can I punch you in the face next time I see you? Then we'll call it square.
