It's Getting Crazy Out There

We're getting pushed around out there because we've all gone SOFT !!

I remember riding a Triumph speed twin many decades ago with a nice length of 3 inch chain & padlock around the shoulder. Never had to use it, the threat was enough for the pot plants to give me a swerve.

Blokes used to take off mirrors, do in windscreens & bonnets all the time then.....ahh but we're all civilized now aren't we.....Lol3

Scooter riders.........Roll what a bunch of clowns, I had a shouting match with one cream puff the length of Elizabeth street.....he tried to commit suicide by passing me on the left, they're just upgraded push bike psychos with big mouths ......colour blind too..... never seen one wearing protective gear yet.........
Never ride the A model of anything.

Yeah!
I have to agree with you all after twenty years of riding its getting really unpredictable.
In the last couple of weeks I have had more trouble than ever entering
Round Abouts and if it not for me observing the drivers as I did I probably wouldnt be writing this.
One guy didnt even see me until after he cut me off in the middle of the roundabout! To top that off some wanker decided that he missed the exit off Tonkin Hwy so thought he would do a U turn and go the wrong way in a 100 kmh zone Towards me at 9.30pm at night WTF!
Im not sure whats gone wrong be it mobile phones or what
I remember the old slogan look left, look right, look bike maybe its time they ran that campaign again
To me whats worse they really dont seem to care.
I know that I would find life Unbelieveably difficult if I killed a motor bike rider with my car!Biker

Mobile phones, Ipods, GPS units etc certainly do distract road users. I had the experience of sitting in Maddington Licencing Dept for an hour or so last year. I was absolutely horrified by the number of people who use an interpreter, social worker or relative to communicate with the staff behind the counter when applying for their drivers licence.
Another cause is our population is growing rapidly and we have a large amount of inexperienced drivers accessing the roads. Where there was once only 1 house on a block there are now 4 townhouses. The end result is more accidents overall.
What shits me is that when there is an accident involving a car & a bike on the news it is always announced that a motorcyclist collided with a car, never the other way around.

Rant complete.

Lol2 Not guilty ur honour!!Lol2Lol2

In NSW a certain prominent RTA Bureaucrat Re: full on tosser! has been quoted as saying; "If he had his way, motorcycles would be banned". end quote, or words to that effect! Also that the majority of M/C related fatalities are due to excessive speed! blah blah!.
Well, without saying too much just yet, a certain group has commissioned a researcher to correlate the RTA findings on motorcycle fatalities against what the Coroner has found. Once done, as u could imagine, it will be vastly different (the RTA doesn't want the truth to get in the way of a good story, or god help us, their jobs/contracts). Mark my words, said Bureaucrat tosser will be ducking for cover as the RTA is blown out of the water!!Roll. This will take a little time, but as I hear more, i'll post up!.

Unfortunately it appears I am not the only one having ever increasing issues on our roads. On the recent WA 10th anniversary "I was Dominated" tour there were 30 plus bikers of whom most did not really know each other. I being one of them, had a fantastic time and felt very safe because we knew that we needed to pay attention to what we were doing but also to those around us. At those rear times when we crept over the speed limit by just a wee bit, I was confident on concentrating on what I was doing but still keeping an eye out for others, knowing that they were doing the same. Maybe that's a little bias referring to a collective but is that not what we should all be doing, looking out for each other ....... apparently not it seems. I do drive a car also and know how easily it is to get distracted but I also feel that the years of riding has made me a lot more aware when driving the car. I know I am preaching to the converted but who else understands my concerns better than all us "2 Wheel Junkies".

PS ........ don't get me started on the tie wearing scooter crowd, they are great in the cities of Europe where a trip make consist of a couple of hundred meters but not so good doing 60 on the freeways lasting 10's of klms..

PPS ........ Thanks for listening, I think I feel better now. Idiot2

Gee Monkeyfish what did you start this is one thread that could go on and on and on.

I myself only had a motorcycle for my main mode of transport and loved every minute of it, but in saying that it was quite some time ago. For some reason I decided to have the bike as a way for me to get out and enjoy something that I love dearly and just forget about what make the world go round.

Unfortunately everything that everyone has mentioned is one of the reasons that I stopped commuting every day, I have basically a 70k round trip and leave home at approx 0500 in the morning and get home between 1830-1900. I can not believe the amount of idiots on the road during the travelling time mentioned and how many accidents that I have seen and every time think thank F......K I'm in a car.

It's like everyone is in so much of a hurry that and people have forgotten how much fun it can be to ride or drive weather it be to work or to have some fun but it use to be something people enjoyed. Mobile phone well what can I say I have one, I leave it off 90% of the time and I hate them especially when people use them to text when they are driving the car.

I have been a big believer for quite some time now that it should be compulsory to get a bike and ride for at least 12mths as you can learn so much more about what is going on around you than you can in a car.

The only bit of advice I can give is get a White Busa people always seem to get out of your way for some reason Lol3 so if you want a police escort give any of us guys that have got one of those White Busas a yell and I'm sure we will help out where we can. Lol3

A big tick for this Thread. There seems to be a plethora of reasons that motorcycle riding is increasing in danger. These include the distractions that are offered to drivers, the general lack of fear that drivers have toward relatively minor collisions, the acceptance that we will give unskilled persons a license (and not remove same from elder persons when appropriate), the lack of judgement displayed by persons who only know how to use their right foot and even the road debris that a motorcyclist has to be constantly looking for (I noted a 6foot step ladder located in the middle of the high speed lane of the Eastlink motorbike-included toll way last week). One common demoninator is the lack of skills in the drivers. 12 months on a bike would educate some, having to pass a basic reflex response test will sort out a few more, learning to communicate and read English will help some, turning off mobile phones and other distractions would help a few more and a brainectomy would be needed for the others. The wipe-off-five campaign down here is absolute crap when some don't have the reflexes or observational skills to stop in time anyway.

I am also offended by the expression " .... when his bike collided with a car" when it can be interpreted quite differently by the general public if ".. a car collided with his bike". No less that a form of brainwashing I reckon.

I've done my 350,000kms or so on my bikes and when I get back on the Busa after a period of abtinance I marvel at the automatic increase in concentration level that is associated with riding a bike compared to driving the car (which I am doing more of for work these days).

How about those barriers you see in the country on some bends, with ultra strong wires instead of a panel? Affectionately known as 'cheese graters'? Imagine how much more damage those barriers would do to your legs?

They put them up around the central coast when I was living there. They were so proud of the nice shiny fences they'd put up and boasted about how much safer they are and how much they'd given back to the community,

And all I could think was HEY......F**K YOU.

What didn't you get enough Therapy Down South, I only have to think about that weekend and you can't wipe the grin of my face. Very Happy

Yes i would have to agree with the statement about the cheese grate more and more of it has gone up over hear in WA and unfortunately when it come to cars they work very well and there is a lot more tin tops on the roads than bikes so it's all about stats I'm afraid. As much as I don't like to say it we are the poor cousin on the road and the bike ride doesn't get much of a thought when it comes to introducing safety devices such as the cheese grate.

I'm hoping that some of the groups that are getting together on behalf of the bike rider are doing some good but I believe it might be some time before we see the fruits of these forums.

also u might want to get an irridium blue windscreen or visor because people seem to think when the light shines on it it looks like a siren flashing and they normally pull over, or slow right down
100000kms in 23 months, not too bad
