Hi everybody
Firstly, happy new year to you all. Hope that 2010 brings great things to all members of our club.
Now that the Gen 2 has been out for a while, and becuase I know that I will have to upgrade someday, I am canvassing opinion on what people have noticed going from the Generation 1 Hayabusa up to the Generation 2 Hayabusa. Ideally if you can describe the difference in riding experience, any issues you've experienced, any mods that you would recommend to any Gen 2 purchasers etc.
I've been searching the dealers for any demo models, there is really nothing out there, and with the GFC and it's aftermath it seems that the mainstream dealers are expecting buyers to buy without getting to try, and this is across major manufacturers.
My Gen 1 will not be traded, I am not getting rid of it, it owes me nothing and I've made some mods to it that will not transfer to a Gen 2 ie Galespeeds etc.
I know it seems like a "pick your brains" but I think this thread could be useful in the future. So please tell me why I should add a Gen 2 to the garage and not buy a BMW
big difference in riding between the 2. Gen 2 has better brakes although they are still shit. Gen 2 has a lot more overall power but is 20 to 30 kgs heavier and all the extra weight is in the rear of the bike making it a little wheelie prone. Both bikes super smooth in power delivery and plenty of aftermarket gear for both bikes. My opinion go for the Gen 2 because its more up to date but that just my opinion.......

I just moved from a Gen 1 to Gen 2, first thing that hits you is the smoothness of the new motor compared to Gen1
Day to day ride it's better controlled - didn't find much difference in brakes (you will feel they are bit spongy if you are going fron Galfers or Braketech to standard brakes)
it's Ecu is reflashable - we have all kinds of mods discussed on this board and mine is stock.
And yes it's raises the front wheel better then gen1.
Cheers

Had a few years between gen1 & gen2 ownership so comparisons are a bit difficult to remember. One thing though, the brakes on my Gen2 are a big improvement on the Gen1. The lever has a much firmer feel and I don't feel like I'm going to run out of stopping power like I did on the Gen 1. I've also done about four track days on the gen2 and only noticed a slight fade sometimes (not every session) so I must have got them extra hot on those seesions. I'm still running standard pads and lines at this stage as well.

Graham, I suggest you consider the Gen II busa to be a GEN 1 that has been sorted with a big block motor, better brakes - they are much better, better handling - it steers quicker, better lights front and back, longer life chain and sprockets due to the larger diameters of the sprockets, smoother by far and longer service intervals.
The dash is beautiful, with a high screen it is more comfortable to get in behind, the fuel consumption is better and the only extra weight is in the meaty mufflers. Piss them off and it is immediately a better bike in every respect.

Graham, keeping ur Gen1 & getting a Gen11 is the best of both "Busa worlds!.
I have done many miles on both, definetly piss the stock exhausts off, the rear shock is the same as Gen1 and will perform ok under normal conditions. I felt the Gen11 was more firmly planted when pushed hard, it is much smoother, it's riding position felt better and doing 1500klm day's was a little easier than on the Gen1. Yes, the Dash is a shitload better, the brakes are only marginally better, but are still shit. Jen reckon's the Gen1 is far more comfortable as a pillion but then she say's the Gen11 definetly pulled harder in 3rd gear ( preferred gear choice when playing in tight twisties or overtaking Semi's or Road Trains!!!). There is endless aftermarket setup's for both. Would I buy another Gen11? maybe further down the track! Will I ever get rid of my Gen1? NO!
So there u go mate, U would be no closer to making an informed decision ![Lol2 Lol2](https://www.australian-hayabusa-club.com/MyBB/images/smilies/lol2.gif) But either way, u won't be sorry!!!
Cheers,

Graham - if you want a new bike then the gen2 is a good buy, it has similar short commings as the gen 1. Exhaust - braided lines - good pads and rear shock (optional) are the only things that really need to be replaced on the gen2 IMHO.
Is the gen 2 worth spending the money on compared to spending the same amount to improve your gen 1 - then the answer is no.
If you want a new bike fair enough you will be very happy with a gen 2 - is it $10,000.00 better than a gen1?
No.

You may as well get rid of the gen1 Graham.....I doubt you'll be riding it much if you get the Gen2. Maybe Kathy could take it over

That was pretty much the plan for the Gen 1 anyway. It needs to be lowered, but to do that I need to get a new top triple tree off fleabay, and I was thinking of asking the secret mod group if they wanted the side stand so I didnt have to mod mine. I would drop it down to just above your drag bike height, if I can get Kathy flat footed on it I am sure she will love it
My Gen 1 is still going well, it is in very good condition for it's age. I dont want to trade it because the trade in value for the bike is next to nothing so there is no sense in getting rid of it.
So a Gen 2 would be an addition to the family, not a replacement of any bikes that we have.

Hi Graham , imo the gen 2 is like a majic carpet ride an absolute treat to ride. The only thing i miss on the gen 1 is the seat, gen 2 seems a bit harder. Good news for buyers is the price of used gen 2 seems to have dropped you can pick them up for 13-15 with low k's a buyers market.

Check the specs.......... The gen 2 is significantly heavier. About 20 kgs. The gen 1 has better weight balance. I used the wsid scales to verify.
