EAST meets WEST ?!?!
#1
G'day All,

In light of the recent success of the end of year get-togethers on both the (lower) East coast, as well as the West coast.....

Any takers for an "East Meets West" style gathering, somewhere in between (Adelaide) ????

We have a couple of members in this area (Greeny, Black_13, etc.) and it would be good to get their views and ideas as well as the input from other keen club members on each side of the country.....

Obviously, a meet-up of this potential magnitude would be a logistical challenge, but I'm sure with a couple of smart heads either side + a couple in the middle.....it could actually be DO-ABLE !!!!

No, I'm not organising it (not just yet, anyhowIdiot2).....just interested if we can get some healthy convo going to see if it's at all feasible, or not ?

Any thoughts or opinions.....pls post 'em up Pi_thumbsup

cheers,
bazman.

Google says Sydney to Perth via Goulburn, Wagga, Hay, Mildura etc is 3955km. Half that is 1977kms. That puts us on the side of the road 10kms short of Mudamuckla Very Happy so since us east coasters are made of stern stuff we could probably coast the extra 41km into Ceduna. Problem is... its Ceduna... although I've never been there and dont know whats there but thats pretty much half way... Edit: I have been there, mid '92, its probably changed, haha)

Of course thats only half way distance wise and its all in a straight line for the westerners Lol3 so maybe Port Lincoln (Syd 1892kms/Perth 2338kms). Port Augusta (Syd 1551kms/Perth 2404kms) is probably a little too uneven. And Adelaide (Syd 1375kms/ Perth 2703km)...? May as well just meet the em in the western suburbs somewhere Lol2

Anyway, I reckon its a great idea and I should have a Busa by then.

Book me in however why not make it somewhere interesting like head of the bite. Slightly further for the Easterners but a beautiful spot, camping, whale watching, Nullabor station 15k's away for food and supplies.

Hey Bruce,
ya got a town name in that area (so I can check it out on da map) ???
btw....Adelaide was juz a suggestion. I realise that it's closer for us than them.....would much rather keep it more even k's from both sides to ideally keep both camps happy!!!

Hey tenacious,

that spot is virtually dead smack right in the middle!!!Clap
From Sydney = 1941km......From Perth = 2041km

What's Streaky Bay like? Much to do there (apart from fishing)?
.....come on dude, spill da beans !!! ReadEek

Google Maps rules Lol3

Actually, Adelaides a great idea. If I was coming from west it would be nice to have a corner to go around Very Happy

There's not much from Ceduna to Eucla. There's Fowlers Bay further west but a zoom in Google Maps shows its very small and probabley not a lot there. Same with Eucla and everything west well into WA.

Streaky Bay's probably the best option. I've heard of Streaky Bay in terms of tourism and fishing I'm pretty sure...

C'mon Bazz, let's make a real ride of it! Let's meet at Three Ways (NT) or Broome, the Westerners could ride up the West Coast in one continuous right hander as it bends to the curvatureLol2
Streaky Bay sounds isolated enough, taking it easy and avoiding night time riding we would be looking at 2 days each way plus say at least 2 day's there. So we need a week off, I'm in! If other members are serious, we need to start planning now! Since we are not out to rewrite the record books I would be happy to supply a support vehicle complete with Barbie (cooking type, not blondie type!Lol3). I will find someone to drive the support vehicle. If there is enough interest in anyone wanting to qualify for a FarRide or IBA then talk to me and I will see what I can organise.
Baz, u & I need to catch up for a drink & a chatBeer. Mmm, could be a real fun week. Any takers???

Cheers,
