Walked out to my gen 2 this morning to a dead bike. Turned the key......nothing! No dash lights, no security light or head light. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? I bought the bike new last August, so i wouldn't have thought it to be battery problem so early.
I had ridden it the day before with no problems.
I'm going to try charging the battery, but would have thought there would have been dash lights at least, or a dim headlight?

Did you turn the steering lock on?

On the Gen 1's, you have to depress the key and turn to engage the steering lock. If you turn it too far, you'll turn the parking light on. Leaving this on over night will flatten the battery.

No the steering lock wasn't on. I did test to see if the parking light would work...but no go either!

Sounds like a roadside assist/warranty/NOT HAPPY job to me (that is of course if its not your fault Icon_rolleyes) Good luck

Do they have a main fuse?? If everythings dead hopefully it's something simple. Did you put a meter over the battery? If it was dead/dropped a cell, or flat you would still expect a slight glow on the dash lights ???? I know on all early bikes there was a fuse link off the +ve off the battery(I just popped this today f*&^ing with lights on the six)

i think it may have been the steering lock. I took the battery out and took it to the local battery shop. They tested it and said it only had 4 volts. They put it on a charger all afternoon and now it seems fine.

Easy to do Matty, on Firestorm I over rotated steering lock to parkers did not notice lights on as daytime, next morning dead flat! At least your battery come up OK at 4 volts plates could have buckled and u/s.

Lucky i reckon al! i tried my little trickle charger on it but it didn't want to charge. The big charger at the auto elec's sorted it out though.Yes
