Hi guys, new user here.
Basically I wanted to ask the busa fans what they thought about my situation.
I just sold my 2005 CBR1000RR fireblade with all the mods, all of them, for a bargain price I'll add, because I was fed up with the following things:
- Very uncomfortable. I'm a skinny bloke with no arse, and that seat used to remind of that constantly.
- The urge to go furiously fast was a constant temptation. Riding around Kinglake, black spur & Reefton spur was fun but I have to admit, I wasn't smiling as much as I should have been. The bike's power and agility precedes my skill so far that I spend every scerric of my concentration on road position and speed, praying I'll make the next corner. I'm not built to be a racer.
- It didn't have the same torquey smooth, low-down feel that my 2003 Honda CB1300 had.
- Reliability. She was a princess, and the engine was so highly tuned it was just one mechanical failure after the other. A Honda with poor build quality? BELIEVE IT.
I was considering a busa for the above reasons. Not quite sure about going straight back to a musclebike (GSX14, CB13) because I might miss the power every once in a while. The new 08's have that 3-level power mode function, and I figured I might be able to cruise on low-power and enjoy the 1340cc torque at low rpm, and rarely knock it up to full power for country b-roads.
What do you guys think? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
hey mate i own a gen 1 99-07 black/purple busa (the best colour to own) your 1st mistake was thinking that honda was a reliable bike , i have only had suzukis as they are faultless and awsome to ride,i steped off a suzuki katana (81 mod) on to a gsxr 1100 88 j and then on to the mighty busa you will honestly love the power, fell and look of the busa ,
now on a funny note dont let the rest of this rabble tell you the gen 2 is the best buy ok go the gen 1 LMAO you will have a blast
while im at it pop into the intro section of the forum introduce your self , tell us about about you im sure you will have a blast on this forum mate

Hi Sutor,
If your comment "the bike's power and agility precedes my skill so far that I spend every scerric of my concentration on road position and speed, praying I'll make the next corner. I'm not built to be a racer" is one of the reasons your got rid of your Honda then buying a more powerful, heavier bike (especially as you are "skinny" seems a little contradictory.
Is the Busa a good bike - its a great bike (this is a Busa forum after all). Is it the right bike for you... re your comment above and wanting to ride it on low power most of the time indicates that maybe it isn't.

Sincerely appreciate the honesty mate
It's just that I've met so many busa owners that claim they use their bike largely for touring rather than anything else. So it strikes me as unlikely that during touring many people are going to be thrashing their hypersport like they might on a supersport.
Which then leads me to believe a busa can be happily ridden without the constant guilty feeling that you really ought to try going faster through every corner because it's a waste of the primary purpose of the bike you chose.
But! I don't own a busa, hence the thread :-)

+1 Steventh.....I totally agree....maybe go to your local bikeshops and test ride everything you can get your skinny arse on....that way you can make an informed decision. Good luck with your next purchase.

Hey sutur,
to the AHC mate !
The 'busa will ride any way you want it to....it all depends on your input at the right wrist. It ain't a pure sports bike and it ain't a full tourer....but it sure is the perfect mix between the two styles of riding, and it will do nearly anything you want it to do !!
Keep us all informed (with pics pls ) about which way you end up going (gen.1 or 2).....
keep it fun,
bazman.

G'day Sutor,
IMHO there is nothing to consider when buying a Busa
Like Kev i also jumped from an '81 Katana 1100, except from there straight onto a K1 Busa, it did take about a month to get used to the power, and the weight was very similar combined with a longer wheelbase than litre bikes, i'm also a skinny bloke but i seem to handle the Busa pretty well, especially now that i've owned it for almost 2 years, in saying that, as far as handling the mighty Busa goes, it's all up to the individuals throttle control, you don't have to be flat chat everywhere you go, that's just asking to become another statistic, not to mention very expensive with fines and the risk of losing your licence, one more fine for me and it's bye bye to my licence for a while, so you could say i learned to control myself and the bike the hard way.... Yeah it's great to have fun and all but race tracks were invented for that, as there are no major obstacles to crash into, (trees, poles, other traffic etc...).
As most people will suggest that you go out and test ride a Busa and see how it feels.... but one final word of advice.... If you disrespect a Busa it WILL bite you and bite you hard both physically and financially.
Anyway, i've had my rant according to my opinion, good luck on your endeavours, i hope you find what your looking for, especially if you choose a Busa!
Stay Upright
Thanks guys, this has really helped.
The gen 2 looks have grown on me, I know how the gen 1 owners feel since I bought an 05' blade and 3 years later the fugly 08's came out thinner than pane of glass and a with a fistful more ponies. I don't care how good a rider you are, it's easier to flick a BMX around a corner than a cruiser :)
I think I conveyed the wrong message in my OP. It's not that I can't corner a sportsbike, because I can, and I'm very quick. But I'm not quick enough to use a superbike to the point at which I can say "I push this bike's capabilities beyond 70% of it's limits". And the constant feeling that there are dudes out there than can, makes me feel I chose the wrong bike.
Whereas with a busa I can't imagine anyone could claim the above, and I'd feel content riding it without chewing the inside of my cheeks to ribbons at frightening speed.

I dont know about temptation, Your going to have one of the fastest bikes on the road, minus the guys who spend the pennies to prove you wrong.
Question is, everytime they pass you, can you say no? or you gonna show em up...
Personally I find it very difficult to say no.
There always the road of courses, being trained to improve your riding skill if you wiish, then just work on the when and where and your set :P

Mate the Busa is exactly what youre after. My previous bike was a CBR 954 and the thing is they peform best when you are riding hard, and you tend to ride that way because of this. I was so surprised at how happy the Busa was just to cruise around on. And the seat (on the gen 1 ) is that much more comfortable than that plank of wood Honda calls a seat its not funny.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
About the 954 - A mate of mine bought an 08' blade, and after previously owning a 954 like you, and he said the riding/seating position is very similar between the two, meaning the 04-07 is horribly aggressive and uncomfortable.
And a word on build quality, I did own a GSX-R 1000, an 03' model. The build quality on that was fantastic. Compared to the blade it was a tank. I made the mistake of misjudging a puddle in the Byron Bay area once (summer storms) and rode through a small lake up to my calves. The engine shuddered a bit and then just drove on as if nothing had happened. There were twigs in the f*&^ing radiator - TWIGS!!
Changed my view of Suzuki build quality after that!

I had been a honda boy all my life , through and through..... from my first cr80 right through to my fireblade..... made the switch -- have never looked back -- still own a honda ( xr650 ) but would not trade the busa for a blade -- i am like you - tall and no ass and this bike is better to ride over long distance rather than the blade
hope this helps

The above quote and what BusaBazz quoted are very true. The link between ur onboard computer and right wrist will determine if u have a long and happy life or not!. If u have rode CB1300's, 'Blades etc, u won't have a problem with a 'Busa. They are pussies till u crack it hard, then life begins or ends!!!. Set up properly, they can be hustled through the twisties at a reasonable pace & certainly quick enough to keep the average sports bike rider honest, if not shamed! . As for covering miles, I regularly do 1000-1500klm days, often 3 up, piece of piss.
Sutur, go forth and enjoy the mighty 'Busa.
Cheers,
