i won a helmet....far out brussell sprout

hi ya darlings.

well i won a jim beam helmet. With somebodys signatures on it

when i entered the competion at local the helmet was on display but we were not allowed to touch ---000000000hhhhhhh

the idea was everytime you drank some jimmy you got an entry form..
copious amounts of burbon later from everyone and filling in competion forms later and three weeks down the track.i was rung up and told i won the helmet..so i thought O M G!!!!! excellent.

picked up helmet only to be told about disclaimer flyer just inside the box.

the bar staff told me its stop me trying to sue jim beam if i wear it and i have an accident..

it read like this..

"please note that these helmets comply with the following safety regulations -sec .517.218 standard no.218 department or transportation in usa
-european ece r 22.05

they are not currently certified to as/nzs 1698 australian standard.
therefore the jim beam helmet should not be used as a safety device.
the helmet was and is to be used for display purposes only "

now when we entered the comp there was a small leaflet attached to the helmet which the bar staff allowed us to read.

it reads after all the directions of how to put it on ect like normal helmets
then it says " certificate.
1.DOT approval.
2. iso9001:2000 quality system
approval.

basically i,m tad cranky as entering a comp that i assumed the helmet wasnt basically a toy but a good helmet to wear.(even thought its to big)
that the organisers didnt say that the helmet was just a looking at helmet first off.

it seems like a nice helmet, venting looks great and different from most helmets i have seen.

maybe i should just be grateful that i won something ..even though its a dust catcher.

what do you lot think? do i treat it as a dust catcher or do i wear the thing thinking it maybe faulty in some way?
i know the helmet casey stoner wears does not comply with aussie standards..i was told that by a bike shop in newcastle

A jim beam helmet could be a v8 super cars Steve Johnson like casey stoney these helmets are used on a track so that is why they probely dont need to meet aus standards , it would still be safe to where just because it dont meet aus standards does not mean its crap .I would say none of the f1 car drivers meet aus standard
not that i would wear it mr Police might have something to say
i would say it would fetch a good price on scambay if you did not want.

I was down the pub a few weeks ago in Biloela and entered the meat raffle, hey she was hot so why not buy a ticket, even tho all my meals are covered by the company and I'm in a motel that wont cook my stuff.

I fuggin won a TRAY full of meat, first time I have ever won ANYTHING!!!

Shouted the boys drinks to celebrate then they shouted me and so on. Left the meat tray under my seat in the excitement and forgot all about it when I got chucked out at stumps.

Had a great night I WON SOMETHING still smiling. It's not all about meat you know.

Confused

As per usual a couple of members and one that should know better have put a slant on a thread..

dont get me wrong i am wrapped at winning ..never usually win raffles ect.
just disapointed it wasnt what was advertised. plus i suppose in a round about way asking should i go ahead and use it as safety equipment or not?

but unfortunatly the Idiot2s of the forum who are nasty have wrecked a thread..

happy now people?? feel better do we?

p,s thankyou to rod and greeny for answering like adults

Regardless of what our laws say Cheeky, if it has DOT approval, I'd feel safe wearing it unless it is designed as a car helmet. If that is the case you can zip round town in the staty looking cool.

Congrats on the win.

No Australian standards sticker can get costly, i think its like $800 fine.
but the stupid thing is the helmet is up to the best US and EU standards but just not stickered for the Australian market.
