Just recently my bike has started to randomly overheat. Its never been a problem even on the hottest sitting at the ligts in traffic. The thermo only seems to come on the once and then thats its, 50 sec's later the needle is heading towards the 'H' at a rapid rate. Soon as I get air flow the temp returns to normal.
To date I've changed both temp senders and the radiator cap just to be sure. Theres no drag on the thermo fan so the windings appear okay. Would the next logical thing to swap out be the switch/soliniod that controls the thermo fan?
Also I'm after a decent place to take my bike here in Canberra. This issue seems to be in the too hard basket for some of the businesses here.

I recently had the same issue - after i droped the hose of the bottom of the motor i found i only had a very small amount of fluid in the system would have been lucky to be 1 - to 1 1/2 ltr tops .... so totally drained -- flushed -- put in new frogs blood and have not had an issue since -- even got stuck in traffic for 20 min where i would overheat normally -- the temp sat fine the whole time even when the thermo kicked in ...
may not work for you - but sometimes you have to go right back to basics to cure a complicated problem

I have finally had my over heating problem solved. I did every test I could do myself except test the t/stat. The manual says that you need to remove the throttle gear to get to the t/stat. I suppose I'm not confident enough to tackle that as yet but I will do it one day! Anyway George at BALLS removed the T/stat and found that it was opening at 100 deg C when it should open at 82 deg C. One new t/stat and all is well. The next thing would have been head gasket!!!
