"par excellence"
yeah I did check for scores but couldn't see anything.
Well if I run off the road for no apparent reason please mark on my tombstone...
"I told you it may have been a wheel bearing"
Dj, i had a stone logded in my rear caliper on my 07, started off as a squeak ended up a bad grinding sound. Had to remove the caliper to get it out, no damage at all to disc, pad or caliper.
Bigfoot do you have to comment on every bloody thread! Even the ones you know nothing about. It gets pretty fuckin boring seeing your name in nearly every thread!
Yes strange one though Shayne, sounded real bad.
Reassuring to hear someone else had same prob.
Poor Bigfoot, he's just young and eager....arr I remember when...:-)

HEY THERE
similar thing happened 2 weeks ago with rear
was dropping my apprentice home and chatting to his old man who rides a bonnie trump and i offered him a ride.
anyway as he goes to pull away from the curb there is this horrible grinding crunching nosie suddenly appear from the rear, it stopped after a few seconds, the only thing i could find out of the ordinary was part of a bottle top flattened laying in the vicinty of the bike, i am guessing it was flicked up and lodged on the caliper or rear sprocket, either that or a small stone as there was road works around the corner.
Yes i agree it very sickening sound and the first thing i thought of was wheel bearing. no sign of damage or anything broken so it s a bit of a mystery
however so far two weeks later using the bus everyday no problems.
does anyone know how often or how regular should the wheel bearings be replaced.
bigfoot is alright, probably a little eager but who wasn't at 17.
At 17 I couldn't be told much at all as i thought i knew everything there was to know..bigfoot is willing to listen and learn. something i should of done at his age....
"does anyone know how often or how regular should the wheel bearings be replaced."
Good question.
I'de like to know too...
anyone?

I would suggest that if the front wheel locks up, and spits you over the handlebars into the back of a parked bus, then I would have a good look at them. Also if they make a grinding noise. LOL
I have had a small rock in mine too - similar symptoms to what you and Shayne have just described DJ - Pulled rock out, no ill effect to rotors or pads.

I did front wheel bearings at about 80,000. They started to make a little whine noise that you could hear while riding slowly. Another indication was a very small dribble of dark oil from the seal onto the hub.
