I think at the end of the day all people should be treated with respect.Police are trained and paid to keep the peace and keep their cool,no ones saying that is easy.I,m sure many are treated with contempt and verbally and physically abused.I think if you initially give people respect you put out many fires of aggression based on their uniform and past experiences. If people continue with abuse they have plenty of laws at their disposal to acheive the desired result. No police officer should ever lose his temper with the powers they have at their disposal. When alot of peoples main point of contact is a patrol officer who offers very little repect for the pondscum he writes a ticket out for,its no wonder the police force has a public relations problem with alot of people.I,ve been booked by coppers who have been respectful and professional and reasonable in their approach and i,ve copped it everytime, those who have obviously been out to get their quota, show in their atitude towards you.The variation in people skills i,ve come across is huge and says alot on how hard the exam must be to wear a uniform.A job not for everyone, maybe, but a job for anyone who wants it,seems to be the mantra.Less target practice and more people skills training/screening of trainees i say.All general duties coppers i have dealt with have all been respectful and had good communication skils.

It is an easy shot for some idiot to say all cops are arseholes and tar them with the same brush. That is bullshit. It is a thankless task and can you blame them for developing attitude when people are generally fucknuckles to the uniform before they even open their mouth.

The above paragraph sums this thread to a tee. I'm with you on this Heidi, my old man is a retired cop and 2 mates (not acquaintances) are cops. Everytime they go to work they're coppers to the people who err in judgement and are pigs to the FUCKNUCKLES who think that they are better than the law we all are bound to live by. Personally, thank f*** we have them!!!
Woman,where's my wallet?

Hear hear.

I'd agree, the rot they put up with and attitude encountered is terrible.

Frankly I don't get paid enough, and do not take it lightly when people spit on me and carry on like a pork chop. I am not paid enough! Mainly I am there to help, but do they see it that way??? Yet I have to cop their attitude and be a nice person to them or I get my butt kicked, even if they are in the wrong.

To chat to the coppers I shake my head and can't understand why they do their job. Then again, they do the same with us shaking their heads and saying they don't know how we do it.

Heidi1 Wrote:Ok, I've done stupid things and been in the back of the van on more than one occassion. I've been lifted bodily up by two coppers trying to move me and I've been caught on a bike doing considerably over the speed limit. Every time the cops have been nothing but polite to me as that is what I have been to them, as I have been caught being fool and they have been doing their jobs.

I have worked with disadvantaged kids and women getting the crap beaten out of them and had a lot to do with the cops through that as well.

You couldn't pay me to do the job they do.

now Heidi,, i think i would make a good cop and a prosperous one at that.

hey Hiedi (thats my dogs name),

Maybe your pig experiences have been different to mine, and as soon as I meet a good one, I'd be glad to post it !
Thats the career choice they made no one put a gun to their head. Not long ago I was looking for a career change and I got offered a job as a parking cop, (ya know , booking ppl for picking the kids up from school in no parking zones, because there is no other parking opportunities at that time of the day and the rain is pouring down). I made a choice NOT TO, coz I'm not that kinda prick to my fellow man. Its a choice you make to join, coz that attitude suits your personality, (thats y they join highway patrol).
I have a right to voice my opinion, you think its ignorant, thats your opinion and I'm happy for ya ! Maybe you just come from a world of limited experience.

Hey Quickshifter

Is that how you spell your dog's name? Maybe you should have picked an easier name, perhaps a few less letters would have been good.

I agree with QS - they make the choice and if they wanted thanks and praise then they should have picked a different career - just like IT (I know there are a few of you out there) its thankless but you picked it. I spent a year in the middle east with a lot of ex/current coppers and 90% of them were selfish, concieted blowhards that when put to the wall most of them crumbled - for every 10 we took in we sent back 6 next rotation cos they couldnt handle the pressure - @#$king pussies - sorry Hiedi totally dosagree with you - 90% arseholes 10% ok - (plus you are are a female - reality they think they are gods gift to woman and lets face it - chicks get treated different its a fact) yes I have met a couple of goodies and one of my best mates in Melb is a senior copper - guess what; he as the same opinion!
Egos; everyone got one
