What a great story and pics. I did the same route roughly in 1973 in an EH panel van and the description of the trucks approaching is the same now as it was then. The drivers have no idea how much of the road their swinging rigs use, or if they do, they don't care!
The camp pics look really excellent. The only way to sleep out eh?
Looking forward to updates and if you let me know what spares you might need as you approach Perth, I'll get them all sorted out for a quick pit stop.
Cheers

Great stuff and terrific reading.
Heidi might I suggest you make a little list of parts you might need so perhaps there are some members that might be able to help out when you get to them. Thinking like a brake lever, I have a spare one but am still to far from you.
Copper/ Silver - The original, the rest are just copies.
thats one way of getting the bike into the bedroom bruce
Tonightâ€s update is bought to you by Simmo after numerous Extra Drys.
Simmo: We left Mt Isa this morning at a sparrowâ€s fart, bloody Bruce and his 5am starts! Not allowing for the time lapse. Rode an hour of darkness…
Heidi: hang on Simmo is thinking…. still thinking.. Iâ€m going to have to cut him off if we are ever going to get this done.
Simmo: We think the tanks have sprung a leak, we are averaging 15 seconds per kilometre. Bruce and I were able to destroy touring tyres in four days.
Heidi: mine are fine in case anyone is wondering, go the Pilot Road 2s.
Simmo: If anyone has contacts in Broome, we would like them to try and get us some tyres. For the first time on the trip we went tank to tank for refills, having to stop every hour or so.
Left Isa and headed for Three Ways, best road Iâ€ve ever been on, Iâ€ll go so far as to say second best road ever after Thunderbolts, with breakie at Cammoweal. So far the road kill we have found is roos, kangaroos and a PIG, Bruce reckons he saw a cow. Farmers let their stock just roam the roads, there were a few eye openers. Heidi almost took out a couple of emus, didnâ€t even see them. Almost took out a roo or two only the luck of the gods that I missed them. Heidi played chicken with a road-train head on, we could see the whites of her eyes, 30 meters back in the rear view mirrors. Lucky we took extra fuel, quite a few of the petrol stations were out of fuel, but on the upside every service station had alcohol, Iâ€m moving to this state, I love it. So we had to top up on the side of the road from our jerry cans (Bruce had a bit of a girlie moment).
Heidi: Bruce has asked me to say that his girlie moment was in no way related to the fuel issue, he just had the shits with us in general. Thatâ€s what happens when you only have five hours sleep night after night. But he has just told us to shut the f*** up, he is trying to get some sleep. Simmo and I are considering a pillow fight or just jumping from bed to bed for fun.
Simmo again: Didnâ€t pass a cop all day. Yesterday we passed a convoy of Grey Nomads a couple of hours later when we stopped for refreshments they came past us and we realised they had a police escort. They were very friendly and gave us a nice wave, that was the time we changed our undies and got on our way.
Rode safely into Katherine and the friendly lady at the bar, quite attractive mind you, advised us sternly not to walk up to the ATM machine at night without a get away car. Tonight Bruce and I have the luxury suite at the local motel. Note: when booking in I was asked by the manager would I like a double bed for myself and my wife. I said, Iâ€m not married to her nor the guy Iâ€m sleeping with, two separate beds will be fine thanks.
And just on the quiet the lovely lady at the bar seems to have taken a fancy to Bruce but its ok, I have Heidiâ€s camera, pictures to follow in the nudie section. But when she saw the blisters on his right hand and when we told her about the road rash on his arse, she gave him a wide berth. Hence he has taken the photos.
Heidi: Iâ€m cutting Simmo off, he is making no sense as usual. Weâ€ll have a more sensible update tomorrow, Simmo is no longer allowed near the computer, or beer in general. Today we did over 1300kms, bringing our average up to over 1000kms a day. We are still 800kms behind schedule, but today helped a lot. We hope tomorrow will be similar. Tomorrow we are headed for Broome, but it is 1500kms away, so unless we donâ€t stop, it isnâ€t likely weâ€ll get all the way. Weâ€ll see how far we get.
For people following the route, Iâ€ll quickly make sense of Simmoâ€s update. Mt Isa to Cammoweal and across the boarder into the Territory. On to Three Ways then left up to Katherine. A big day, but as Tex and Bundy once told me, you can make up some time in the Territory. We were always counting on this bit to raise our averages. No photos tonight, weâ€re going to bed. NOT TOGETHER, the boys are sharing the honeymoon suite.
Goodnight all, we need to get more than five hours sleep tonight.

Hey Guys and Girl,
Wendy here AKA Andy's long suffering hyabusa widow. You guys sound like your having a fat time and we have both been following your progress every night ( I think Andy checks every hour or so, next time we should organise TV coverage for you, it would be easier)
You are doing a trip of a life time and meeting from the sounds of things some very interest characters along the way.
Heidi if I was you,I would of insisted on a 24 hour stop in Mt Isa to confirm for sure that men out number women 10 to 1. So many men so little time. Maybe next time.
Take it easy, god speed and safe riding until your next stop. WA here you come.
Regards
Andy
