Which Is Best Air Filter?

I put a K&N on my older bike and was happy with the fact that you only have to clean it regularly and not replace it.
I wouldn't bother replacing the OEM for a performance boost because I don't really think there is much in it except for a louder intake noise. Let's face it, there is no lack of air getting into the donk via the OEM filter and it keeps out more dirt than the aftermarket ones.

I have a pipercross and for one thing it drinks more gas - as for performance I do think it is up a little but nothing dramatic and only really put it in for less replacing really - used to have K&N in all my other bikes but went PC for the K8 as the reveiws were good and I decided a change is good. Sounds good though - you can def hear the intake more .... which is cool BUT does that mean more air means more dirt, tend to agree with Bugs as above, I think on a long ride I would put back the OEM
Egos; everyone got one

Well fellars I'm a big fan of K&N have had them in all my big bore road bikes ( all 4 of them ) and did big klms on the last 3 bikes. I still haven't put one in the Busa but I am planning to do at some stage.
The questions raised by Bugso & Busakid08 about keeping the motor clean from dust is a good one and I'm not going to disagree or agree but I can say this from experience - I had by GSXR1100WP pulled down at 60 klms to do some headwork and check out a severe false netural problem the bike had. The bike had run a K&N since the 1st service so you would have been very surprised to see the condition of the bores when the motor was down. The mechanic that was giving me a hand mentioned that he had never seen a motor so clean and to see a motor that was ridden relatively hard ( High Speed open road stuff - Had to in the goldfields to turn a corner into a corner) to still have the hone marks still in the bores from new was pretty impressive. Now he reckons this was a combination of good oil and servicing and he said that he had always questioned how well a after market filter worked but he was sold on K&N after seeing this. Now as far as environment was concerned if you know the goldfields in WA well I don't think you could get much dusty unless you're out by Broken Hill somewhere. Bike had also done gravel work and been across Aus once when the motor was done. When ever I serviced my bike ( Minor servicing ) I always checked and cleaned the air cleaner and never had any issues with dust I always found the airbox to be very clean. So from my point of view I don't think you can go wrong.

Dunno for Gen2. But I swear by my BMC Racer (red) as recommended by Ballsy RIP.

OK, I bought the DNA air filter and installed it. Didnt notice any difference in performance, induction noise is about the same. I like the fact that its washable, reoiled then reinstalled.
From what I`ve read, the pipercross race filter would have to be the best performance wise, but for everday use in the long term, ITs not recommended by the manufacturer. So I reckon the DNA will do. Thanks to you guys for your comments and recomendations.

Glenn you wouldn't want to know what some of the fellas here can feel through their arse cheeks!
"par excellence"
Sounds like Glenn and Chris are the only 2 who can pick things with their arses.
Noone else has mentioned power here. Crikey! If an air filter can give you an extra 2hp I need to get my cheeks checked.

unless that was a fishing bait post, supposedly yes an air filter that allows better breathing can add about 2 extra HP. would stand to reason imo. thats why the aftermarket fabric filter is much thinner allowing more air to go thru.

I run a DNA they are all much of a muchness, I even pulled out the paper out of my gen2 stock filter and left the mesh in for a test run to lean it out a bit more it worked but the bike only ran only a little leaner on the A/F readings nothing to get too excited about.
