F@#$ing banks

Ok.
As usual when you ask a question at the bank you never get an answer.
I was told "Sorry, I don't make the rules. You can fill out a feedback form if you like..."
My wife works at NAB and she didn't have an answer either!

But I bet someone from the Busa Club will have a logical reason as to why banks do this.

The scenario:
A customer decides to deposit money into my account.
They don't use the normal methods I accept eg funds transfer or Visa. Instead they put the money in when they do their normal banking at the bank.

But it comes up online at my account only as deposit cheques with the date. No other id for the cheque.

At the same time I am banking cheques that people have given me via snail mail etc for same amounts. These also show as deposit cash/cheques No other id.

So how the f#$ck am I supposed to work out where the cheques came from if there is no id on them.
I was told that is the way it is done but the bank does not know why.
The bank can see who deposited the cheque but I am not allowed to see this f$%^ing information.
After all it's only MY account that I pay them $10 a month for the privilege of using MY money!!!!

Oh yes I can retrieve the information.
It will cost me $10 and I will need to fill out a form and wait 2 to 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the rant but this is really annoying.

I am a logical thinker and this just is not logical.
Why don't they put the client id next to the cheque???
Then it would be simple...
20/7/2008 Cheque from Joe Blogs Company

Please someone who works in banking may have an answer.
Here's hoping...

I like the credit card rules they have been employing lately.

Do you remember they used to stop your CC when you reached the limit.
Not any more......... Now they allow you to go over & charge you $35 for the privilage. Even if it's the addition of interest that puts it over.
I have specifically requested my bank to put a stop on my CC when or before it reaches the limit & they flatly refuse.

Their reason being,
"We don't want you to be embarrassed at the checkout".
I said I don't give a crap about being embarrassed, I don't want to be charged $35. & they said that it is up to me to keep a close track of how much "credit" I have & I must also keep track of the interest so that I allow enough credit for it to be charged without exceeding the limit.

And to top that off the internet records of transaction are 3 days out of date !!!!

Dan can you confirm that in any way?
Nothing on their website and I am sure they would just say yes to get my business.
The prob also is that my wife works at NAB so we get better rates etc...
but I could use the Bendigo Bank as ammunition at least to give it to them

Frakkin banks, yea they do love their fees and manufacture them as they go along. My tip open up an online stock and shares trading cheque account like for comsec or anz e'trade. Dont trade and use this account, free check book free account no monthly fees and decent interest rate with over $5000 balance. check these details if still current as I opened my account some years back, I dont trade anymore but still use this free account.

pete its been like years since i got a cheque sorry buddy couldnt confirm it for you but im sure it said who it was from. with regard to rates i pay no account keeping fees and limited transaction fees. given i did open my account 6 years ago so may have changed but like i said no account keeping fees and if i use bendigo atm or withdraw from the teller theres no transaction fees. infact they debit my account 3.5 a month for transactions. basically instead of giving you free transactions with other atms they just give you 3.5 whether you use someone elses atm or not

Pete... I'm with St. George and sometimes receive payment by direct debit/credit. As long as the client fills in the details, they show up on the transaction so I can tell. PayPal also tells me (but I don't use it often because its expensive). However, if I bank a cheque... nothing. Just says Cheque Deposit. I did have one instance about a year ago where someone deposited to my account at a St. George branch - they were asked if they wanted a notation of up to 20 characters on the deposit - and that showed up on the statement. When I bought my current busa, I deposited a cheque directly into the previous owners account (Police CU) and I was able to add a notation. I believe Police CU uses NAB as its clearing bank, so I can't see why it isn't possible for the notation to be added when a client deposits to your account.

Yep my wife said they can add a notation but its up to the client...optional.
Should be compulsory imo.

I buy stuff on ebay by paying cash directly into sellers accounts. So that the seller can identify my payment amongst maybe hundreds of others, I ask the teller to add a personalised numbered designator to the deposit details to confirm my payment. If they can do this with cash...........why not cheques Confused

St George charged me $1.50 for a balance enquiry rip off bstards. Wont reply to me customer feedback
I sent em. When I originally opened my acct with them I had no monthly charges so long as I put all my purchases through as a visa transaction. They stopped that within a short time without so much as a by your leave. Banks are like Rhino's thick skinned and charge what the f*** they like. Some years ago back in the UK the banks were gonna charge a pound fifty I think it was if a non acct holder used their ATM. There was so much shit kicked up and people started boycotting banks that they ditched the idea quick smart. So long as your acct was in the black you got no charges. Non of those spurious acct keeping fees, admin fees. And theres a thing, if you dont recieve a written statement what admin is there outside of the acct keeping, and I'm sure in these electronic times we live in there isn't a person in the bank updating everyones individual transactions every day. Pretty sure it's all automated, so where does the acct keeping fee come from ????? Arseholes

The flaw to me is that it isn't compulsory to fill out that notation which is ridiculous.
I said to Sandra ask one of the head honchos at NAB.
She says you're a customer call them and ask.
I do and get the runaround I expected.
Its a very valid question.
But staff are to scared to question anything by the sound of it.
Just play the yes game...yes yes yes.

If anyone else works at NAB out there I would appreciate someone finding a real answer..

I got charged when my card was fraudulently used and went over the limit - they reversed it, eventually, but it was many calls after they reversed the fraudulent transactions!
