Race Fuel

What are others using on there Turbo bikes.

Iv'e used VP-MS109.
But was going to try VP-C16 but was told I need a log book and soon it will be unavailable.

So just wondering what the other options are.

That soon to be unavailable thing has been happening for years, leaded fuel permit for ANDRA,CAMS,DLRA etc keeps rolling over .
You can look at unleaded race gas & there are some high octane fuels available at the track!
Probably won't be long till i try Methanol, other stuff is getting too Expensive.

Thats exactly the reason why I built Quicksilver to run on methonal from the start...we almost got done using moto124 in the early days because it wasn't holmoligated at the time and was illegal to run unbeknown to us .

So I thought stuff this, Methonal (Alchol) was the way to go and have never looked back.

ALKY SmittenTrophyYes dont know why you would want to use petrol ever again and im still learning how to tune with the stuff Very Happy

So where can I get a log book from?
Or do I need an ANDRA licence to get the log book.

yes from an accreditated organisation and be a member

Out of interest, what does it take to switch to methanol??

needs 2.4 times the fuel, most of the fuel system and ecu needs to upgrade.
doesn't like cold starts
dilutes the engine oil fairly quickly
attracts water so you should drain the tank and flush the system (don't think many do though,)
if not for these complications i would have changed long before now.

If your using any sort of potent race fuel, it is a good idea to drain the tank and flush the system, At least every now or then.

After each outing I empty the fuel tank ,then add a couple of liters of 2 stroke fuel ,run the pumps for a while ,empty this fuel ,remove fuel lines to the injectors ,flush system with wd40 , when I want to use alky again ,add a couple liters alky , run the pumps and then remove alky /wd40 mix , fill with alky and run , running methanol does require a lot of maintance ,even if you replace all the parts not compatable with alky (hint 1) you still need to drain as methanol mis hydroscopic ( absorbs moisture ) (hint 2)
I now have solutions for cold starting , and a good solution to oil dilution as well as excellerated engine wear
Methanol has a few problems not found with petrol ,but all can be overcome which leaves you with methanols many benifits ,though I would only use it for racing purposes Pi_thumbsup

I thought you might have been looking over my shoulder, Gary.

Cold starting is only a problem when the engine temp is below 70deg F....On my bike anyway! All you need is a shot of petrol down its guts and it'll fire.

Race bike or rarely riden bike is better suited.

If you think methonal is hard to fire, try Nitromethane.....Pi_freak

Nitro seems to be worth the effort .

You guys are nuts Nitro Methane now that is some potient stuff ,dont go wiffin it to hard you won't be able to have kids..lol very cancerious..
I have been running c-16 for a while now and the stuff was like $180 for 20litres I have larger blackbird injectors in running 300hp it dosnt last you a day.
I have now switched back to bp 98 with an additive and she,s still holding togther ok...expept for the gearbox ..thats another story.
actually feels faster on petrol,c-16 burns slower to allow higher boost
In my option a motor will put out more horespower longer on vp racing fuels than methanol , but can you afford it ??

If you guys dont mind I would like to ask some more questions on methanol, I am currently racing mod bike with a stock 03 busa, I want to try to have a loose plan for improvements over a few seasons to build the bike up to an eye watering turbo machine.
If possible I want to avoid painting my self into a corner where the money I have spent over previous seasons is wasted when I eventually put the hair dryer on. Obviously there is many limititations to this goal but nonetheless I will do my best.

Currently my PB on the Busa is a 10.22 and I weigh about 115kg without any rum in the tank.Beer
I have an intake cam to go onto the exhaust side and have picked up a cheap set of high comp pistons for next season. I have been thinking about throwing a Motec M4 on the bike for data collection and tunability which would help me now and later for turbo, methanol or nitrous. Some swingarm extensions is also in the plan.

So what would your opinion be on power gains from a stock engine using methanol compared to pump fuel?

Wouldnt there be cheaper ways to gain the equivelant of power which was gained form methanol?
If so why go methanol (apart from price of fuel) because it is sounding like a hell of a lot of preventative maintenance?
Is there any compression ratio limitations using methanol?
To get 2.5 times more fuel in, I would need to replace fuel pump, pressure reg, fuel rail, injectors and ECU?

Thanks in advance guysClap
