Hi all - I am expecting to take hold of a 08 busa in a week - what build or manufacturer date could I expect? ie would it be atleast 08 or will it be 07 and I am just waiting on suzuki to pull their fingers out of their bums
you should get an 08 built, however if you don't tell him what you want he might off load you an 07

What does it matter?
They are all 08 models so far. The 07 model was a gen 1 bike.
Unlike other bikes, the Hayabusa models are distinguished by colour schemes rather than build dates.

No it won't.
There are no 07 model Gen 11s. They are all 08 models.
If any difference, the 07 manufactured should be more valuable than the 08 due to being the 1st of the new generation.

Busgo is 100% correct here. The K8 Gen.2 will always be regarded as an 08 even if manufactured in 07. Same as on next new color scheme for 09 even if has manufacture date of 10/08 will still be regarded as an 09. Busa years generally go by their color schemes and generally sold here in Oz 2 months prior to the new year they are categorized as.

well lets put it this way, if in 1999 I had the choice of 2 copper/silvers one with manufacture Feb'99 the other say Sep'99 or even Jan'00, I know what you would choose and I know which I would choose and thats Feb'99. and thankfully thats the one I have.
So if I were buying a K8 and had choice of May'07 or Jan'08 with all things being equal, Id be buying the May'07, strange huh? but those with long time busas know which to go for. Give me a VIN 002-010 anytime over VIN 200+

To me it's an 08, but it's 07 on the plate!! 1 of the first!!!

I agree in principle that if there were two identical bikes, with different manufacture dates, I would buy the newer.
I think what Busgo & Volvi are saying is that a K8 is a K8 as far as resale value goes. The difference of a few thou on the odometer ought to have more bearing on resale than the date of manufacture when comparing to other specimens of a given model.
Now this is totally irrelevant to what you are saying mate, but I wouldn't trade the last 4 months of top riding for a newer manufacture date... Plus I like my VIN 023. ;-)

except theres nothing like "new tooling" for a new model. those that have them vouch for them.

who cares what the build date is just ride the thing hard and enjoy it! 99% of people wouldnt even think twice about different vin numbers accept to do a rev's check. it all boils down to do you expect to keep the bike and enjoy it or you just buying it for a year and then flog it off to someone. buy it, ride it, love it. if your buying for an investment or your woried about the 100 bucks extra resale you might get from a vin number thats higher then your buying the wrong bike. 2000-6000km's out of a back tire, hard on break pads 3000-6000km service intervals depending your preference. busa's arent cheap on expendibles. they arent cheap on fuel for a bike and they arent cheap on parts. your expected resale value between two bikes of different vin numbers would be so minimal in the grand sceme of things its not worth worrying about. just ride it and live life

Sorry lads but I agree with knitting champ. In a dealers eyes and anyone who knows about selling anything, the newer the compliance the better the resale. In a dealers eyes once 2009 hits the k8 07 busa is two years old even if its an 11/07 manufacture.
In a year we would be talking more than 100 bucks in terms of resale and even more if you take the mentality of "just ride it hard bro" cliches
