Hi Folks,
Cleaning the wheels the other day and noticed a small crack on the lip of the rear wheel rim. the wheel / lip / rim isnt deformed - just a small crack about 1cm long.
Has anyone had any experience in fixing this - I assume I need to take it to someone who welds aluminium?
Thanks
Steventh
Are you sure its cracked or just not a deep scratch.....
dont think you'll find anyone who owns a business to do a weld repair these days for you.

surely if there is no evidence of impact damage it should be a warranty issue.
got to tell you no way I'm riding a busa on a repaired wheel.

Very difficult to even get rims re rolled anymore, cracks are a major safety issue, if its cracked chase warranty, esp if no dent ,

Hi Spanner,
heres an update.
Having googled alloy repairs I found a lot of companies that repair alloy wheels - some in very bad shape by the pics. many of these were in Vic, no doubt there will be some in Qld. I was referred to Garry Carter in NSW (02 9755 1264) who seems to specialise in motorcycle rims.
He saw no issue with repairing my rim (especially as the crack is so small and only on the bead edge - I wouldn't have even noticed it if I wasnt going to put tape on the rim). Its a simple welding process with an alloy rod and can be done while i wait - cost between $40-60. I will ensure a thorough inspection when the wheel is off but as this is being done so often I cant see any safety issues - welding technology has been around a long time and its limitations well known.
I will wait until I need new tyres and will get it done then.
Hope this helps.
Steven

Steventh ,if there is an issue with the rim, dont even consider getting it repaired.
It is definitly a warranty job for Suzuki to sort out.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the advice.
On closer inspection it looks as though the udge of the rim has been hit by something where the crack occurs. Because of this and that Im the second owner ( bike is more that 12 mth old) it is unlikely to be covered by warranty but i will investigate and let you know the outcome.
Cheers

I will try to move it.
