A little bit of carbon

Made this up out of carbon fibre yesterday, im pretty pleased with it. Im a Composites Tech who normally builds boats and with fibreglass but CF is bloody nice to work with. The yellowish marks on it are from the flash

Yeah mate i have a really good mould, uses all original mounting points. Takes original grommets and speed nuts, simply bolt it on as per original. No mods at all, bolts on in 5 mins. Ill work out a price if anyone is interested.

Was it hand laid or vacuum formed?Their is a market worldwide for good carbon without pinholes.The trick is to make it profitable for you and price realistic. opp and sebimoto are wet hand laid and need 10 coats of clear to fill the holes.I think if you did these,humps,huggers and front guards and infill panels to start you could sell a few.[/i]

+1 on the question, was it vac'd or just laid up?

The other question I have is how do you prevent the orignal from being damaged by the gel coat chemicals when you make a mold?? I have copied a rear hugger before but the original got damaged.

Its hand laid, using a new type of superclear gelcoat. No pinholes. Plus i spray the gelcoat, not brush it on which causes an uneven surface for the carbon to sit on. Ive been testing it on my Busa since 04/12/07 about 2000km and its all good.

horndog, if you prepare the surface properly and use the correct release agent you shouldnt have a problem, also if you over catylize the resin your using you will create too much heat which will damage the original part , never use anymore that 2.5% catalyst as you will cook it or even worse start a fire.

Bear the mould is plain old fibreglass but the gelcoat i use is tooling gel specific for moulds.

spamanglenn i only use 1 coat of superclear gelcoat, with no pinholes at all. This stuff is great and i highly recomend it.

g bus66 I reckon the price would be around $100 delivered, i want to make sure they are perfect tho, so could be a few weeks off.
