BUSA the OLD MANS BIKE????

Gave my brother a ride of my 'busa a couple of months ago. After about 20 kilometres he got off saying he was too scared to keep on riding it purely because everything else became something that had to be overtaken.

Everything Astrobusa said is spot on. The 'busa is an easy bike to ride casually. It just takes maturity as a rider to understand what it can do, what it can't do, and when and where to do whatever.

Dead right about it being easy to ride.

A group of us were riding together down to PI some years ago. A mate on a GSX750F was the slowest(read: only sane one)
On a freeway stretch I offered him a swap with the 'busa. We soon turned off onto that great bit of road between Euroa and Merton.
The slow mate was out in front at over 200. When we pulled up he had a grin from ear to ear. His comment was "it's just so easy to ride fast, after 160 it just squats down and sayes this is where I like to be." (He was a little worried though when he looked in his mirrors to see his little GSX right up his clacker)
Final comments were still "It's too big for me to handle"
Like I said - he's the sane one in our group!
Ride what you're comfortable on. The 'busa doesn't feel big to me, but ride in a group with other bikes and it's monstrous looking.
Oh . . . and yeah, I'm on the right side of 40 for owning a 'busa, but I wasn't 7 years ago when I got it.

But that's the whole point of this thread. I think it's becoming clear most people seem to think riding a 'busa is about maturity as a bike rider, and not how many years you've been riding or how old you are. I'm sure the 21 year old Casey Stoner could manage the bike just fine.

When I was 19 and started riding, no way in the world would I have been mature enough to ride a 'busa around. I'd be another statistic. Hell, even 2 1/2 years ago when I bought my SV650S I wasn't mature enough for it.

Thinking it through, how many youngins' can handle a 250cc properly? And how many here have forgotten what it's like to ride a smaller bike? I love riding my 650 just to remind me of what it is to ride the 'busa.

I read somewhere that the target demographic for Busa Buyers is a 48yo male.

So I guess it could be an old mans bike, thats what my son calls it, cos he's not allowed to ride it...ever!

I would crap myself if any of my kids bought one, although a GSXR can make you just as dead just as quick.

I have been riding all my life, and I still find the Busa intimidating at times.

I have not ridden any of the current generation of GSXR's so I cant really compare them. I could not see myself being comfy with my wrists lower than my knees, but I do like the calibre of the chicky babes that come standard on the back of GiXeRs..The Busa ones so far have never really impressed me.

Absolutely 100% correct regarding maturity. only 33 but if i rode my busa the way i rode my 600 5 - 10 yrs ago i wouldnt be here typing this. Getting a busa was the biggest learning curve & it taught me respect - i was one of those wipper snappers that thought i was ace. now i love teaching them a lesson ! The best thing ive ever done hands down. (dont tell the wife that !!)Lol3

Arrr, the once ubiquitous RD350LC. I had a couple & an RZ250. The RD's were an awesome all round machine, (believe it or not). Does anyone know where there's a good one for sale? I'm interested in the pre YPVS models that were made in '81 & '82

bgaheer Wrote:Hi,

I bought my first Busa in 04 at age 32. Guess couldnt buy one before cause of the fact that I am from a country where the biggest bike makes 18 BHP and is a OHV. I have been riding since I was 11 yr old - the best bike which I owned before the busa was a Yahama RD350. Busa is the KING

Cheers,

Bill
