Volvi is a definate yes in my opinion too, he started the club. Richard also has had a large involvement with the club.
For a long time we did without moderators, it is a shame if the club now needs them. I remember a while ago a group of people suggested having locked threads that only some people could access. I asked then, just as I asked above, what criteria would be applied to determine who would be allowed to access these threads and who would not be allowed. I dont remember that question being answered.
I think this information needs to be fair and seen to be fair otherwise it can all seem a bit Orwellian. Constitution time maybe?
Also, how would you control a banned person opening a new account, or using another persons account to post?

You can't. But it's pretty easy to tell when a user gets banned, then suddenly a new user jumps straight in to attack/defend the same people or topics. And sure, they can just do it again...serial pest??
End of the day, if I see something here now that stirs my blood or whatever, I just remember it is just text on a screen. What else can you do. I'll just try to keep enjoying the forum for the good stuff.

yeah we did well with no mods - more so on the ezyboard forums - I think the reason is that now when you type Hayabusa in to the Australian google - the club turns up, before it didn't. I think its apart of forums on the Internet, that as they grow - more control is needed to keep them nice & clean, its just because you get all sorts of people with all sorts of back grounds, points of views, working lifes, family all sorts of things. People will clash - the world shows us that.
I have been with overclockers.com.au since it started with only a few hundred people, back then they didn't have mods(6 years ago) - now that forum has well over 20,000 members & is insanely huge. They have lots of mods lol.
But the point of those mods is to up hold what the owner (Agg - also rides an R6!) wanted the forum to be - a nice, friendly place. its hard to up hold it with so many different people & their many different points of view, but they manage well by having moderators & a set process on how to deal with set posts & problem people. Its something the owners or those who made the site or club & those that are chosen as moderators talk about & agree on.
The other problem I have seen on forums is people bringing personal problems on to forums or making personal attacks on other people, on Zgeek.com, where I was also there from the start & know the owner, people got together, the relationship's the grew , some were great - others not so, the ones that went bad ended up all over the forum, while it may seem funny, it really wasn't. Personal attacks & problems shouldn't be all over a forum like this. sure we can bitch about - but personal attacks have no place on here IMO. If you were riding with a group of people would you readily do or say some of the things we might on here at a lunch? or a fuel stop?

Actually from a technical point of view, a few things can be done.
Firstly the forum software can be told to only accept real email address for sign up, this means an email address from a work place or your internet service provider, and no gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail or other free email accounts that can be created easy.
Second - everyone has an IP address on the internet & its as good as, a home address. this forum software & the web server can in fact block a user by this IP number. However there are ways around blocking IP, but each IP is also taged to the internet service provider you use & you could block all traffic from that provider, like optus or telstra, internode, netspace - but you can also report a user to their internet service provider & have them blocked from getting to the site via the www address.
Last - keep on deleting the accounts that are made? a pain but how long would someone sit at their pc trying over & over, once an account is created, ip block the PC is came from as well.

Let me say this I think Bruce is the one who started all this some years ago by calling me a four letter word and it has gone down ever since, and we should also have a gay rights person here also as a moderator just in case there is some shit about.
