apparently the stuff is too dense for bikes and will not burn properly leaving residual behind that does your engine no good!Frown

I normally run vortex, but I've heard some stories about the V-power.
then again, I've used regular unleaded, and can't say I've noticed any difference.
I just opt for pulp to guard against pinging...

I think that the V-power may be the old Optimax rebadged. Lots of complaints about Otimax, it didn't sell so it dissapeared and now we have V-power.

yeah im pretty sure it is optimax under a new name.

black the mobil 8000 is a 98 ron same as BP ultimate but i like the fact that most mobile servos seem to have pay at the pump thingys in themEgyptian

I've found the Mobil 8000 (98) and BP Ultimate (98) are good. The bus doesn't run as well on Vortex 98 though.

In Canberra a couple of Shell servos have what they call V-Racing. 100 octane. They use a 5% ethanol blend to boost the octane rating up to 100.

I try and stick to the Mobile and BP. Better economy and power.

I've used the V Power plus (up to 100 oct rated) and the Bus loves it. Problem being only 2 stations in Canberra serve it, one south one north. We have had a number of times when the Fleet maintenance group that looks after our fleet cars have rung and told us to stay away from BP that particular day as they have had numerous complaints of very dirty ULP resulting in injector blockages. On the other hand I've used all the others and at the end of the day have come to the conclusion that one riders petrol is another riders rocket juice!EgyptianIdiot2Egyptian

Go figure.

Any Shell fuel has been a no-no for bikes for as long as I remember. Just as lara pointed out, it leaves residue & stuffs the plugs among other things.

This new brew Shell has out is supposed to not leave residue which is why they are pushing it as a "High Revving" engine fuel.

I have never used Shell.

On top of that, SHELL have done, & are still doing some major environmental damage in Africa. So on that fact alone I avoid all Shell products.

Yeah, I tend to use BP where & when possible. Main reason for that is, over the years I have done quite a bit of work in several refineries around the country. (New construction, upgrade & maintenance work). Out of all refineries, BP are the best kept & cleanest. This seems to show in the fuel quality. + I do know that BP often sells fuel to Caltex & Mobil when the other 2 can't produce enough to meet demand. (usually because their refineries are in need of repair). I have found that I get better economy (in the cars) with BP than any other fuel.

Within the last couple of years the Diesel line at the Caltex refinery in Brisbane was being upgraded. during this time Caltex could not make Diesel. So for almost 11mths during 06 / 07 all deisel being sold from Caltex outlets in Brisbane was actually coming from the BP refinery.

Ive only been using BP Ultimate about 4 yrs now, never a problem. I also like the fact it has injector cleaner additive. I wont fill with anything else.

Hi there,

I find it interesting that Shell are flogging off race V power with a 5% ethanol blend. Ethanol has an oxygen molecule which means that it has partly oxidised, ad anything that is oxidised has partially burnt. Therefore any fuel that has partially burnt will have less bang for the buck over the pure stuff. You will find tank range will drop with an ethanol blend due to this.

As above, I run everything on BP, usually targeting BP ultimate 98. The 4wd runs on BP diesel as it has a lower sulfur content than the other 3 sisters.
