See Rob, never leave the children unsupervised, they always get up to no good.
Pan, I picked up an earlier version Veypor as a web special 2nd hand for $99, I thought what the heck for that price its cheaper than a shift light plus it does a whole lot more. Glenn has the later VR2 model which has more features, one of those features is that it calculates drag coefficient and rolling resistance as Glenn explained earlier. A large variable would be the wind, if it were gusting it would influence the resut.

Datalogging

The VR2 has powerful datalogging features usually only found on very expensive and very complicated race systems. The VR2 provides up to 25 hours of datalogging for anything from a road trip to a trip around the race track. You can select a sampling rate of up to 50Hz and datalog all your critical stats: Speed, RPM, Velocity, Distance, Time, Acceleration, Horsepower and Torque. The data is saved onboard the VR2 in non-volatile memory. You can download the data to the free PC based VR2 analysis software and plot, analyze and review every sample.

Flexible Logging

The VR2 can store as many datalogging sessions as you want. During laptiming it logs all data and records lap times and split times to 1/100th of a second accuracy. When the onboard memory is full you can download all of your runs to a PC for analysis. The VR2 comes with a serial cable for downloading or use it with the optional USB adapter to connect using a USB port.

Drag Coefficient

The drag coefficient measurement is an industry first and only available on the VR2. The VR2 measures your coefficient of drag and rolling resistance automatically and without a wind tunnel, all you need is a flat piece of road a couple hundred feet long. Follow the simple on screen steps to calculate an accurate coefficient of friction for your vehicle in only a few minutes. Then make modifications like removing side mirrors, adjusting riding position, bodywork, etc to see how it improves your aerodynamics. It is a fact that to increase top speed it is more effective to reduce your drag coefficient than to increase horsepower.

Date and Time

A built-in clock and calendar with battery back-up lets you keep track of the date and time. The VR2 tags all your runs, laps, races, and datalogging sessions with the current time and day so that when you view or download them later you will know exactly when they took place. An internal lithium battery is included and lasts for up to 10 years before requiring replacement.

VR2 Features include:
- All the features of the Veypor system
- Full-time datalogging of:
# speed
# distance
# time
# acceleration
# RPM
# horsepower
# torque

- User programmable sampling frequencies from 1 to 50 Hz
- Up to 27 hours of datalogging at 1Hz and 33 minutes at 50Hz
- Unlimited number of datalogging sessions
- Keeps track of lap times and split times while data-logging
- coefficient of drag calculation
- rolling resistance calculation
- Real-time clock and date with built-in battery backup

Here are of off the Veypor 1 features. These are ALL INCLUDED ON THE VR2

Performance Intelligence

We say intelligence for a reason. The Veypor is full of intelligent features. The automatic ¼ mile and 0-60Mph modes sense vehicle motion and only start logging data when you start moving and stop logging when the run is over. By using the accelerometers and wheel sensors together, the Veypor knows if your rear wheel is spinning at the beginning of a ¼ mile run and will still give you accurate forward velocity. With the wheel rotation sensor on the back wheel, even if the front wheel comes off the ground accurate distance and speed measurements are always known.

Veypor can remember and recall up to six stored runs. It can store up to 30 lap times and top speeds, it can keep track of your average velocity over a 2 hour period, and it can memorize all your gear ratios. Itâ€s RPM sensor is programmable for any engine type (V-Twin, Single, I-4, parallel twin) and has a programmable shift light for any RPM level you want. It lets you choose different graphic displays and metric or imperial units. All this data is permanently stored in the Veypor. It can sit around for years and the data will still be there.

Precise Sensing

Veyporâ€s outstanding accuracy comes from a dual motion sensor architecture that uses both accelerometers and wheel rotation sensing coupled to a high speed microprocessor.

Youâ€ve probably heard of a few products that use accelerometers as a method for measuring motion over short distances and times. The problem is that they are highly subject to electronic noise, vehicle vibration, bumps in the road, hills, lateral drift and temperature. This makes their accuracy very unreliable for any period of time over several seconds, at low accelerations or at different times of the day when the temperature has changed a lot. At high accelerations and at low speeds over short distances they perform very well, generating a constant stream of data hundreds of times per second.

We have combined a highly accurate 3-axis accelerometer with a wheel rotation sensor. The Wheel Rotation Sensor generates very accurate data but only generates it once per wheel rotation. Combining this with the accelerometers gives data with very high accuracy all the time, whether cruising on the highway, accelerating on the drag strip or cornering on the racetrack.

Complete Instrumentation

The Veypor has everything you need to replace your stock instrumentation. It features a user selectable metric or imperial display of speed, RPM, current gear, tripmeter and a permanent odometer.

Accurate RPMs

The built-in tachometer actually measures every individual engine spark with an accuracy of 5 millionths of a second. It then uses an adaptive algorithm to smooth out and average this value so you see the constant RPM of your engine, not values bouncing all over the place. This lets you get your engine speed exactly right before dropping the clutch and taking off.

Real Data in Real Time

Everything is real-time. No matter what youâ€re doing the display tells you your real time speed, acceleration, RPM, which gear you are in, and how much distance you've covered. Speed, acceleration and RPM are displayed using a digital numerical readout of the exact value and using bar graphs so you can get the relative values at a glance. The RPM and velocity bar graphs have programmable upper limits. Set the RPM graph to a limit of 10,000 and youâ€ll know at a glance exactly how close you are to that redline or optimal shift point.

Plenty of Data

The Veypor records lots of data, at very high sampling rates. During runs Veypor logs your Velocity, RPM, Distance, Time, Horsepower and Acceleration. During quarter mile mode all data is recorded 25 times per second (25Hz) and for a maximum of 28 seconds. In 0-60Mph timing and braking tests, data is recorded 50 times every second (50Hz) for a maximum of 14 seconds. You donâ€t even have to limit yourself to 0-60 or ¼ Mile runs. During those 14-28 seconds you can do whatever you want and the Veypor will capture all the data and allow you to graph it later.

What gear am I in?

Without the need of any additional sensors the Veypor tells you your current gear. It uses your speed and RPM to calculate and memorize your gear ratios so that you always know what gear youâ€re in.

Perfect Vision

Veypor collects and displays a lot of information. All this information is displayed on a large graphic LCD thatâ€s easily readable in direct sunlight and has a distinctive blue backlight for excellent visibility at night.

The Complete Package

The Veypor comes with everything for installation: All sensors, wiring, mounting hardware, the PC serial cable and power cable. We even include a bottle of super glue for attaching the wheel rotation magnet.

The Veypor box includes:

Veypor device and all installation hardware, AC/DC wall transformer, PC Serial Cable, R.A.M. Universal Motorcycle Mount, Manual and installation guide.

All of this comes in one simple to use package, for under $300.00. I did a bit of research on some of the components and came up with the following options.

Gear Indicator included on the Veypor, $90-$150 for a Digi (see http://www.bohnarmor.com/riderstations/datatool.html)

Shift Light included on the Veypor, $171+ for the Nology shift light (http://www.nology.com/shiftlight.html)

Digital Tach included with the Veypor, $215 for the Kowa (http://www.etoolcart.com/index.asp?PageA...rodID=1526)

Datalogger included on Veypor... well.. $2,000 to about $6,000 for the others... but we aren't going to go into that... :)

A close personal friend is buying one of these because Harley Davidson charges over $500 for a tach... This has so much more.. for half the price!

Just the top 3 options alone add up to almost $500!!! and it had how many more?

Don't just take my word for it... Here are some reviews from leading motorcycle magazines around the world. Check them out on Veypors site http://www.veypor.com/veypornews.html
