Oils just ain't oils.

I've been using Shell Ultra 4 10w/40 on my bikes over the last 6 years no problems. %%WORD10%0, TL1000S, BUSA 7 ZXR . Suzuki dealer gave me 2 choices when servicing,Motul Or Shell Synthetic. Bikes seemed to run quieter & smoother on shell.
Just thought I would add my 2 cents of experience.

Thankyou very much for your valuable input. Most appreciated. Demeester....I more than likely still would not feel good about putting car oil into the bike

Safe riding

Well I used Militec in with Motul semi sin.in my first bike,2001 mod %%WORD11%00 for 60000 klms no probs, I sold it for a much superior bike the Busa. I have now done 12000 klms since last Nov 14 th, thats when I bought it new, and have used Militec in with Motul semi after the first sevice, no probs except 3-5 rwhp gain, and runs cooler and I average 5.4 litres per hundred with the wife on the back Ventura bag full. It is safe with the wet clutch.

I use Shell Full Synthetic (can't find any semi-syn).

Have done 20,000km, and the gear shifting is the only thing I can say the rider notices any difference with, -for the better. That first gear 'clunk' from neutral isn't as loud either.

I do think the clutch noise is louder, but you really have to listen to notice the difference. On balance, I hear more good things than bad about Syn oil and the 'good things' tend to be backed up with research or experiential evidence.

Although, I change the oil once a month (about what the manual says at 6600km), I think you can get away with longer periods between oil changes too. I once left it in for 10,500kms (don't ask), and the gear changes were still sweet. Dirty as hell, though. Dirty becomes an issue long before viscosity lost.

The only other advice I was given, was to stick with what ever oil you choose, and not to switch around all the time.

Would someone like to give us all an "executive summary" on all of the above.

Grant . Don't use the Castrol GTX3. You'll find it has 'friction modifiers' or some such stuff in it and your clutch will start to slip. This I know from experience whilst trying to save a few bucks many years ago. I now use a semi-synthetic.

But I think the major sum-up should be, Whatever oil you use, change it VERY often, and always change the filter.

cheers,

That is the exact reason Gazza why I am not comfortable with Car oil in the busa . I have heard that many times and even my trusty suzuki mechanic agree's.

Thanks Ward
