Ok for a start the VFR is one very reliable bike and doesnt come from the cheesecake factory! It is much nimbler in the tight stuff to the busa.I know its not sports bike handleing, but it is very forgiving and is a very good sportz tourer, which is what i need unless i by two bikes.I'm also getting to the point where im over putting tyres on this thing,i've gone through 4 sets in 10 months and i dont run softies either so i can at least get more than 3000k out of a rear.I know the acceleration on the busa is intoxicating, but in these days of increasing camera presence it is getting harder and harder to use the potential of this bike. Some might say why dont you do track days then, but if i was to do that ,then there are better bikes than the busa for that!I'm not rushing out to sell the busa yet but i will weigh up my options when the time comes.
Some fair points Rod...though I doubt the VFR would be much nimbler than the Busa on 99% of roads, but I can't say for sure because I have not riden one.
Can I make a suggestion? Honda riders club are holding a ride day at the Island on 30th January at which you will be able to ride a variety of their bikes on the track for a full session, then ride your busa for the rest of the day. Might be useful for you.

Oh...I dare say they use less petrol too.
Thanks for the input Scott,i am already a member of the hrca as i previously had a vfr750 for about 6 years and i have already ridden the new vfr a number of times. As far as the viffer being no different to the busa,in the tighter going believe me it is!I would sure miss the power of the busa, which is why i would love mister honda to bring out a freakin thou but i have been waiting patiently for many years for this to happen and i doubt it ever will.As i said i am not rushing into this and will work it out eventually or as i said a 600 is still an option and keep the busa for those special occasions.
New Year greetings to ya Rod.(and everyone)
One of the guys from our (other)group has a VFR800 and as curiosity got the better of me one day,we swapped during a long fang through some decent twisties and sweepers.
Man...talk about a disappointment, considering all the HYPE we`ve all read about the VFR.
The Honda does all the things a bike should..ADEQUATELY.
It revs like a two stroke and when that VTEC kicks in at about 7 thou,it just simply revs more...without actually dialling in all that much more power.
From time to time we both like to go fairly hard, but try as I may,I simply couldn`t keep up with him, even tho he was riding a busa for the first time.
The Honda really has very little torque and you`ve really gotta rely on very high corner speeds to maintain a fast pace.Very much like a 600 except carrying a shitload of extra weight.
It`s a very complex machine and I`ve heard that the maintenance costs are up there in Ducati territory(hence the saving you get from fewer tyres simply goes to the mechanic)
The guy got off my busa drooling and shaking his head in amazement after his first experience with the massive torque and linear power of the busa...not to mention how well it handled.
I think for your money, you`re buying a stack of tricky bits with the Honda, which still doesn`t give you what you`d get anyway with shitload more cubes.
It`s pretty hard to slip the VFR into any sort of category .It really doesn`t have the torque to be a top notch tourer(you`ve constantly gotta work the box) It hasn`t got the agility or super light weight to be a top notch sports bike.It kinda just seems to be out there on a limb...neither here nor there...just going about it`s business in an average sort of way.
If I were you,Rod,I`d certainly keep the busa but for the track(or just to have a second bike)I`d invest in one of the current crop of 600`s which would simply blow the VFR away in any given circumstance.
Of course I`m biased here, but with good reason, when comparing the busa`s capabilities with that of the Honda`s.
Just my thoughts,mate.
Cheers....Franko
Happy and safe `04 to everyone.
The less is more strategy hey rocket?
A vfr8 would have ~100hp at the wheel? Listed as 213kg dry? Get a 4-1 out of the trading post for half price and your busa is <205 dry...
I knew the guys at honda were good but.....
best part, still probably easier to ride a wheelie bin faster over reefton?
Wheelie bin, Ha!
Don't take it to heart Rocketman. Get a haircut a warm cup of Milo and kick back. They'll be stirring me or even better someone else next week.
Say hello to the boys in blue for us tomorrow. Were gunna give the GOR a go. Latte at the Arabs... Word is the boys in blue are gunna be elsewhere tomorrow!
Cheers, Phil. Riding not talking.
P.S. Ping Slong! (How many more hours, I mean days)
No i have not lost my marbles,i know there are a few faults with the viffer 8 like the vtec thing which is a wank and the link brake thing but hey what bike doesn't?As far as the weight thing goes, yes i know the viffer is as heavy as the busa(dry weight)but i think suzuki are kidding themselves on the weight of the busa, the viffer is heaps lighter and more manoverable than the bus and i know for a fact that i could punt the viffer heaps quicker than the busa through the reefton.I know you guys are so one eyed about the busa that it wouldnt matter what i said it wouldnt change your minds!Like i said i love the busa but it is so much of a barge through the tighter going, maybe i should just ride around Yea where the roads are open and fast(busa country)and sip lattes at......... whereever it is you go again?
A ride to the gor over xmas/new years, do you like racing caravans,or wheelie bins good luck.
Quote:I know you guys are so one eyed about the busa that it wouldnt matter what i said it wouldnt change your minds!
No, that's not true Rod. There are any number of bikes that I can understand somebody would logically trade in their Busa for...just that the VFR 800 aint one of them. But, each to their own. Good luck with whatever you decide.
For my part, I'm hoping to close a deal on an R1 tomorrow.
Stepping out Phil!! The GOR! And no doubt todays weather won't be putting you off either...
In the end it doesn't matter what you ride Rocket, if you've got the time & still enjoy it, that's all that counts
At least you've got full use out of your Bus & rain doesn't send you scurrying for cover like some of the pansy's out there
Rev, you didn't join Phil on his jaunt to the GOR today?
The latte was okay, but the Red Herring was a little tough.
Rev back in my days men were men, and pansies were flowers! Not now though. It's becoming acceptable to be a queer or a wimp! NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT! (There is though!)
Next weeks ride will be through the Dandenongs. Word is it'll be safe there too.
Cheers, Phil. Riding not talking.
Thank you and well said Rev.You are right about what you say and i'm sure some of these busa owners only dream of riding there bikes Scott you may hang shit on the viffer but i dont think much of an R1 so there you go!Gyddy why would you come over this side of town? .Well ive just about covered everyone, waiting for your stinging replies.
Started off in that direction & finished up somewhere entirely different Rode through lightning strikes etc etc YIPE !
Ah well you have to take the good with the bad but ANY day is a riding day in Oz compared with our Cannuck cousins for instance, poor bastards
Dandenongs GDY ? why don't we take a quick run up the midland to Cobram where you can have a go on my brother's Ariel 600 with sidecar ? that will test you out !then the old bike shop at Wang then the antiques road show & lunch at Benalla !!!! Decisions, decisions !!!
Count me in Rev. Sounds like a win, win ride to me. Get to ride. Get to buy more antiques. Keeps everyone happy. Ha! Say no more...
No stinging remarks Rocketman. We know you get out there and ride. It's a wonder we don't get kicked out of the club (Vic). It seems to be against all the rules. I've only fitted 6 tyres to the Cheesecake over the last 18 months. (Gotta take the shoulder operation into account, otherwise it would have been more).
Cheers, Phil. Riding not talking...
