Anyone else had a stone in their caliper?

BUSGO Wrote:I did front wheel bearings at about 80,000. They started to make a little whine noise that you could hear while riding slowly. Another indication was a very small dribble of dark oil from the seal onto the hub.

Also did mine at around 80 000 ,started to make a lot of noise.
Replaced the rear ones at the same time .

mmmm.
I have still had a clicking noise when going round left corners like roundabouts and u turns.
Finally thought I would do the front wheel bearing.
Raceway just called and said ready to be picked up.
Asked how they were he said knackered.
Will check em out when I get there and post pic if poss.
Seems like this was my prob.
f***. I could have been deaded!

oh dear.
i cant believe i left this for so long.
just got back.
the bike steers like a new bike...absolutely incredible.
come to think of it i could feel sort of dragging round some tight corners.
and well that issue i had a while back that i thought was a stone in the caliper.
i am sure it was the wheel bearings now.
i asked for one of them, he asked me if i steam clean the bike. i dont.
but i told him that the Jindy run a few years back was incredible going through rivers going across roads etc.

well here is the pic.
when i rotate the bearing it is so crunchy its amazing they hadn't locked up!
I think i might buy a tattslotto ticket.

The one you show in your photo has no seal on it DJ and on the earlier busa models I am not sure if they were sealed on both sides of the ball race. (the track that the ball bearings run in).
You can buy replacement bearings with our without the seal.

Like you, I would hope the workshop put good ones in.

Additional, professional advice is always appreciated Ohdear.
Unfortunately we have been sadly lacking over the past few years.
My advice is always aimed at a newbie with possible limited knowledge. I could add more detail in some cases but then the discussion like you have added may not follow.
You are quite welcome to follow me around and provide the finer details when you have the time or compulsion.
The whole club will be better off.

surfabusa just seen this thread asked me to find out
1. how many k's had you done on these bearings DJ?
2. you mentioned about steam cleaning bike he does this at least once a month
he just clocked up 30,000km's, will steam cleaning reduce life expantancy of the bearings?
finally how much did it cost to get done??

help will be appreciated. surfabusas PC is down at the moment

Geez, I can't win. I encourage people to help out if they wish with tech advice.
My comment about following around was not sarcastic but simply to say that in most cases I pop up with an answer first if I see a question.
I really don't know why I bother sometimes but yes, you are quite right. My answers can sound quite arrogant. Sorry but that is my nature.
