I once left the key in, and ignition on, and walked off - checking my pockets as I walked around the corner, in some sub-concious habitual way and not finding the key, sprinted back - just in time to see the Harley rider who had parked behind me turn the ignition off and keep walking, just to make sure I didn't get a flat battery.
